Home My WebLink About921122.tiff RESOLUTION RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF SPEED LIMIT SIGNS IN THE VICINITY OF ARISTOCRAT RANCHETTES WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, the Weld County Engineering Department has recommended to the Board that 45 mile per hour speed limit signs be installed on Weld County Road 18 between US Highway 85 and Woodruff Street, Weld County Road 31 between Weld County Roads 16 and 18, and Barley Avenue between Weld County Road 31 and Grant Street, to insure safety to the traveling public, and WHEREAS, the Board has determined that said traffic devices are necessary for the protection of the general public. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the Department of Engineering be, and hereby is, directed to install 45 mile per hour speed limit signs on Weld County Road 18 between US Highway 85 and Woodruff Street, Weld County Road 31 between Weld County Roads 16 and 18, and Barley Avenue between Weld County Road 31 and Grant Street, for the safety of the general public, and that said signs must conform to the State manual and specifications. Most recently, the request is for speed control on Barley Avenue, which is the southern border of Aristocrat Ranchettes. The roads bordering Aristocrat Ranchettes on the north, east and south sides are all unpaved. On Road 18, we have counted 854 vehicles per day; Road 31 has 505 vehicles per day; and on Barley Avenue we have counted 797 vehicles per day. Road 16 is paved up to the southwest corner of Aristocrat Ranchettes and has had a traffic count of 1,701. The accident record and the speed counts would indicate the existing 55 mph condition is appropriate. However, the traffic counts are extremely high for unpaved roads. Also, the internal roads of Aristocrat Ranchettes access the surrounding county roads every eight hundred feet. Because of the very high traffic counts on the gravel roads and the extent of the development in the area, I think a 45 mph speed limit is appropriate. What options exist for the Board? (Include consequences, impacts, costs, etc. of options) : The Commissioners' decision is whether or not to post speed limits. Box 758 Greeley, Colorado 80632 Dear Commissioner Kennedy and Sheriff Jordan : On May 26, 1992, I called requesting there be speed-limit signs posted on Barley Avenue (east from Road 16 on the south side of Aristocrat Ranchettes) as well as the area be patrolled to help slow the large number of speeding vehicles using Barley Avenue. To date I have seen : 1 ) no speed limit signs; 2) two sheriff cars checking traffic (one on a Sunday evening around 7:00 p.m. and one the morning of June 10 issuing a ticket ) . As I stated in May, I contacted the State Patrol and they advised they do not have the manpower to service the area. The problem of excessive speeders continues to mount, far past merely a dangerous situation. Calls were placed to Sargeants Johnson and Hayward advising them of times with the most speeders (4:30 to 7:30 a.m. and p.m. -- particularly in the evenings) and was told I would have a call advising of the results and number of speeders within ten days . The request for help with the problem is warranted. Living right on Barley, I see this excessive speeding and resulting lack of control from the unpaved roads. There are close calls daily, not only when I turn in to my property but also to other vehicles who are respectful of the speed limit. I realize budget restrictions, lack of manpower, workloads, etc .
