WELD COUNTY COUNCIL
October 6, 1993

The Weld County Council met in regular session in full conformity with the
Weld County Home Rule Charter at the Centennial Center, 915 Tenth Street,
Greeley, Colorado, on Wednesday, October 6, 1993, at 7:30 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
The meeting was called to order by President Young, and the following members
were present, constituting a quorum of the members thereof: President Young,
Councilman Gardner and Councilman On. Councilwoman Janda was not
present at roll call and Vice President Campbell was excused.
Also present were three University of Northern Colorado students, Patrick
Armijo and the Council secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Councilman Orr clarified the Coordinator Reports section of the minutes and
then made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 1, 1993 meeting
as amended. President Young seconded the motion. Vote was taken and the
motion carried unanimously, with Councilman Gardner abstaining.
APPOINTMENTS:
President Young noted the appointments listed and mentioned that he would
be unable to attend the Elected Officials' Meeting on October 11, 1993.
Councilman Orr will make an effort to attend. Councilman Gardner will
appear at the 1994 Budget Hearing on the Council's behalf.
The Council secretary relayed a message from Information Services regarding a
briefing to be held on Friday, October 8 at 9:00 a.m. in Room 350. Council
members were unable to attend; however, requested any information, i.e.
minutes, handouts, etc. from the meeting.
ADDITIONS TO AGENDA:
Because Councilman Gardner will be in Sunnyvale, California at the time of
the next Council meeting, President Young added this item to the agenda. This
will enable Councilman Gardner to be prepared with questions from Council at
the time of his meeting with Sunnyvale officials.

Let the record reflect that Councilwoman Janda is now present and provided
the Council with an update on her illness.
CORRESPONDENCE:

The correspondence received was duly noted by President Young and was
subsequently circulated among the Council members.
REPORTS:
COORDINATOR REPORTS
Councilman Gardner was heard on the air on KFKA's Coffee Break program.
He reported that no telephone calls from citizens were received. He also
attended an SDA conference, including five sessions on Amendment 1
(TABOR). Councilwoman Janda requested a copy of the Amendment.
Councilwoman Janda added that Weld Mental Health had asked her to deliver
speeches on their behalf.
President Young was unable to follow up on a concern voiced by John Hoyman
last month, but will do so during the upcoming month.
OLD BUSINESS:
CORONER'S OFFICE FOLLOW-UP
Vice President Campbell was not in attendance; therefore, this item was moved
to next month's Council agenda.
SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA
President Young made a brief explanation of this item for the benefit of those
in attendance. Councilman Gardner will make an appointment to meet with
City officials and discuss the questions he had received from Council members.
Councilman On suggested also trying to meet with County officials in order to
obtain information regarding salary setting.
NEW BUSINESS:
PAYMENT OF THE BILLS
Councilman Orr made a motion to approve the payment of the bills.
Councilwoman Janda seconded the motion. Vote was taken and the motion

carried unanimously.
Mileage for Ralph Campbell $11.00
The Voice subscription renewal $12.00
SECRETARIAL RESEARCH REQUESTS
Councilman Gardner requested copies of the minutes from recent landfill and
brine pond hearings, particularly the hearing td revoke the use by special
review permits.
PUBLIC COMMENTS:
The University of Northern Colorado students were interested in environmental
issues.
ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
