., "YEAR 2001 FORECAST"
0CT 81985 '\; DRAFT DOCUMENT AVAILABLE
State H)i_ v_a_y_. and Department staff members have
coordinated since last Julyto develop long range planning for the state highway
system. Meetings will continue, with county and community officials and a
public involvement process. Formal comments from county and community
officials will be welcomed at the Commission's annual county hearings. As
rescheduled, these hearings will be held in Denver November 7, Grand Junction
November 8 and Colorado Springs November 18.
Meanwhile a draft document is available to the public. Entitled
"Colorado: A Forecast of the Year 2001 Highway System" the 36 page booklet
demonstrates the state's requirements to ensure future mobility for the
next 15 years. It also identifies the resources necessary to provide a
state transportation system at a level and quality that is reasonable.
The Forecast is not project specific but discusses general demands:
roadway surface condition, traffic capacity, roadway geometrics, requests
for additions to the state highway system, bridges, Interstate route completion,
maintenance and other activities like rest area or noise barrier construction.
The Forecast also describes the funding shortfall between anticipated revenues
and the revenues required. Overall , Colorado is expected to fall about $5 billion
short of needed revenue during the fifteen year period studied.
Interested persons may obtain a copy of the document from the Public
Information Office, Colorado Department of Highways, Rm 235, 4201 E. Arkansas Ave. ,
