Meetings will continue, with county and community officials and a public involvement process. Formal comments from county and community officials will be welcomed at the Commission's annual county hearings. As rescheduled, these hearings will be held in Denver November 7, Grand Junction November 8 and Colorado Springs November 18. Meanwhile a draft document is available to the public. Entitled "Colorado: A Forecast of the Year 2001 Highway System" the 36 page booklet demonstrates the state's requirements to ensure future mobility for the next 15 years. It also identifies the resources necessary to provide a state transportation system at a level and quality that is reasonable. The Forecast is not project specific but discusses general demands: roadway surface condition, traffic capacity, roadway geometrics, requests for additions to the state highway system, bridges, Interstate route completion, maintenance and other activities like rest area or noise barrier construction. The Forecast also describes the funding shortfall between anticipated revenues and the revenues required. Overall , Colorado is expected to fall about $5 billion short of needed revenue during the fifteen year period studied. (Phone 757-9228) 000 FR 010-1(17) S.H. 10 NORTHEAST OF WALSENBURG The Department's Division of Highways accepted two bids at the October 3 opening for a project to resurface 2.2 miles of S.H. 10 in Huerfano county. Walsenberg Sand & Gravel Company of Walsenberg turned in an apparently successful bid of $586,916 for the project, which is scheduled to be completed within thirty working days after its Notice to Proceed. The project begins about 81 miles northeast of Walsenburg and extends northeasterly. It includes grading, structures, stabilization, hot bituminous pavement, striping, topsoil , seeding and mulching. A project requiring completion within twenty workable days begins half a mile north of the community and extends north. An apparently successful bid of $343,389 was submitted by Frontier Materials, Inc. of Erie. Resident engineer Hal Toland of Boulder will coordinate the project. O 00 MP 04-0115-26 S.H. 115 IN FREMONT AND EL PASO COUNTIES Schmalz Construction, Ltd. of Gunnison turned in an apparently successful bid of $154,231 at the Division of Highways October 3 opening for a S.H. 115 seal coat project between Colorado Springs and Canon City. Five firms bid the project, which is scheduled for completion within fifteen working days. The project begins 61/2 miles south of the Fremont and El Paso county line and extends 16.2 miles northerly. Vic Anders of Colorado Springs is resident engineer. O 00 MP 47-0083-15 S.H. 83 IN FRANKTOWN Improving drainage on S.H. 83 in Franktown drew 6 bidders at the Division of Highways October 3 opening. A project which begins a tenth of a mile north of S.H. 86 and extends to the intersection includes grading, stabilization, structures and hot bituminous pavement. Kiewit Western Company of Littleton submitted an apparently successful bid of $34,858 on the project, which requires completion within twenty workable days. Wayne Nesbitt of Aurora is resident engineer. BRS 0059(12) 0 0 o S.H. 59 SOUTH OF SEDGWICK James E. Simon Company of North Platte, Nebraska submitted an apparently successful bid of $2,587,380 at the Division of Highways October 3 opening to replace a bridge on S.H. 59 south of Sedgwick. Seven firms bid a project which requires completion within 150 working days following its Notice to Proceed. The project begins about a tenth of a mile south of S.H. 138 and extends eight tenths of a mile south. On the schedule are grading, structures, stabilization, the bridge, hot bituminious paving, topsoil , seeding and mulching. L. J. Muller of Sterling is resident engineer.
