T4.9 8' #85-33 FOR MORE INFORMATION: 757-9228 Highway News Aug. 8, 1985 RELEASE AT WILL I 70-2(125) INTERSTATE 70 IN GLENW00D CANYON The Department's Division of Highways accepted four bids at the August 8 opening for a project to build eastbound Interstate 70 lanes in Glenwood Canyon. A project beginning 4.8 miles east of Glenwood Springs and extending seven tenths of a mile east includes grading, structures, bridges, retaining walls , stabilization, not bituminous paving, signing, striping, topsoil , seeding and mulching. Ames Construction Co. of Englewood, Colorado turned in an apparently successful bid of $5,325,175. The contractor is to complete work and open the completed roadway to traffic by December 15, 1986. R. L. Orton of Glenwood Springs is resident engineer. 000 BRMU (B) 0033 (2) WALNUT VIADUCT IN DENVER Five firms turned in offers at the Division of Highways headquarters August 8 when state engineers opened bids for the Larimer Viaduct replacement project in Denver. This Phase B contract will provide the trunk portion of the WESTBOUND Walnut Viaduct connection to the new Colfax Viaduct which opened to traffic August 7, 1984. An earlier project (May 9 bid opening) now underway provides ramp connections over the Valley Highway (I-25) . This project provides a concrete box viaduct which will connect to the Colfax Viaduct and southbound I-25 on the west, and to a 7th Street touchdown on the east. Paving will extend to 8th Street near the Auraria Higher Education Center; signals are included. Flatiron Structures Co. of Longmont submitted an apparently successful bid of $3,892,031 on the project, which requires completion within 240 working days after its Notice to Proceed. Resident engineer is Joe Seitz, of Denver, who coordinated the West Colfax Viaduct replacement. The project is on S.H. 33 beginning a tenth of a mile west of Zuni St. on Colfax Avenue extending 0.4 mile northeasterly. Included are grading, structures, the bridge, hot bituminous pavement, signing, striping, lighting, guardrail , signals , curb and gutter, topsoil , seeding and mulching. The project will also remove the old Larimer Street Viaduct. 000 (over) 851274 bd rnzci `74`/9 Highway News Page 2 Department of Highways August 8, 1985 IR 70-4 (106) I-70 WEST OF BENNETT Improvements for Interstate 70 west of Bennett drew ten bidders at the Division of Highways August 8 bid opening. The project begins twelve miles west of the community and extends 7.4 miles east; it includes bridge widening, bridge deck rehabilitation, hot bituminous and concrete paving, guardrail , seeding and mulching. C. A. Powley Construction Co. of Arvada turned in an apparently successful bid of $2,318,766 for the project, which requires completion within 120 workable days. W. W. Nesbitt of Aurora is resident engineer. 000 MP 24-0006-08 U.S. 6 AT GLENWOOD SPRINGS Elam Construction, Inc. of Grand Junction submitted an apparently successful bid of $195,533 at the Division of Highways August 8 opening to resurface 1 .7 miles of U.S . 6 in Garfield county. Three firms bid work which provides grading and hot bituminous pavement overlay beginning 900 feet east of the West Glenwood Interchange (Interstate 70 exit number 114) extending easterly toward Linden Street. Resident engineer is J. E. Hanson of Glenwood Springs. The project is scheduled for completion within fifteen working days after its Notice to Proceed. O 00 MP 44-0070-17 I-70 FRONTAGE ROAD, VAIL Resident engineer M. J. Smith of Eagle will coordinate a project for hot bituminous pavement overlay on an Interstate 70 frontage road near Vail , if contract award follows an August 8 bid opening in Denver. Division of Highways engineers accepted three bids for the project, which begins 2200 feet east of the Vail Road interchange and extends 3.4 miles east to the crossroad under the Pitkin Creek interchange. B&B Excavating, Inc. of Vail turned in an apparently successful bid of $230,607. The project requires completion within fifteen workable days after it starts . O 00 MP 10-0075-22 BROADWAY IN ENGLEWOOD Six firms submitted bids at the Division of Highways August 8 opening to resurface 1 .9 miles of Broadway in Englewood. An apparently successful bid of $151 ,872 was received from Kiewit Western Co. of Littleton. The S.H. 75 project, scheduled for completion within twenty working days, begins at Hampden Avenue (U.S. 285) and extends south to Quincy Avenue. It includes hot bituminous pavement overlay, curb and gutter, and striping. J. J. Ward of Denver is resident engineer. O 00 Highway News Page 3 Department of Highways August 8, 1985 MP 01-0070-18 INTERSTATE 70 IN DENVER RKS Industries of Englewood turned in an apparently successful bid of $107,433 at the Division of Highways August 8 opening to resurface 1 .9 miles of Interstate 70 near the Denver Coliseum. A plant mix seal coat and striping project extends east from Washington Street. Bids were accepted from four firms for the project, which requires com- pletion fifteen days after its Notice to Proceed. J. C.
