MAR 4 1985 PARKDALE BRIDGE SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 1 REMOVAL Twisted and broken beyond reasonable repair, the Parkdale bridge on U. S. 50 ten miles west of Canon City was scheduled for demolition Friday, March 1. Department of Highways engineers had met with officials of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad to arrange the date, track and railroad property protection (including timbers and sand) , along with blasting details. Work is being done by Kenney Construction Company, Inc. of Commerce City. The bridge was damaged, and closed, February 7 in a tractor-trailer accident. With the damaged structure removed, the contractor may focus on placing the 240-ft. , one-lane temporary bridge and traffic signals which will allow alternate eastbound and westbound use. April 11, 9:30 a.m. , Larimer Viaduct replacement in Denver, consisting of grading, structures, bridges, hot bituminous pavement, signing, striping, lighting, signalization, topsoil, seeding and mulching, located on SH 33, beginning 0.1 mile south of the intersection of I-25 and 13th Avenue and extend- ing 0. 9 mile northeasterly . This project provides a Walnut St.Viaduct connection to the new West Colfax Viaduct. (SIX WEEK AD) . ERMU 0033 (2) A pre-bid conference will be held at the Department of Highways headquarters building, 4201 East Arkansas Ave. , Denver, Colorado, beginning at 9:00 A.M. on March 15, 1985. Bids will be accepted only from prequalified bidders who attend the pre-bid conference. * * * Highway News Page 3 Department of Highways February 28, 1985 MP 10-0000-02 SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS SOUTHWEST OF DENVER The Department's Division of Highways accepted four bids at the February 28 opening for a traffic/safety improvement project in the southwest metropolitan Denver area. Scheduled for various locations on Havana St. (S.H. 30) and South Parker Road (S.H. 83) , the project includes pavement patching, structures, signing, striping, signalization, curb and gutter, and sodding. C.P. Construction, Inc. of Aurora turned in an apparently successful bid of $253,841 on the project, which requires completion within fifty working days after its start. Designated as a Set-Aside, the project restricted bidding to certified prequalified minority businesses. Bernard T. Paiz of Denver is resident engineer. 0 0 0 C 03-0085-20 U.S. 85 SOUTH OF FORT LUPTON Resident engineer H. L. Poland of Boulder will coordinate a Set-Aside resurfacing project on U.S. 85 south of Fort Lupton, with work beginning 4.7 miles south of the community and extending 5.2 miles north. Bidding at the Division of Highways headquarters in Denver, on the last day of February, was open only to certified prequalified minority business enterprises. Four firms turned in offers and an apparently successful bid of $384,218 was received from Garza Concrete Structures, Inc. of Commerce City. The project, which involves hot bituminous pavement overlay, is scheduled to be completed within twenty workable days following its Notice to Proceed. O 0 0 C 35-0017-08 S.H. 17 SOUTH OF MOFFAT Kiewit Western Co. of Littleton submitted an apparently successful bid of $808,025 at the Division of Highways February 28 opening for a pavement overlay project on S.H. 17 in Saguache county. The project, which begins 41 miles north of Hooper and extends 12.4 miles north to Moffat, drew nine bidders. Resident engineer is John Ungefug of Alamosa. The project requires com- pletion within 45 working days. O 0 0 MP-C 10-0083-13 S.H. 83 IN ARAPAHOE COUNTY Resurfacing South Parker Road near the Cherry Creek State Recreation Area near Aurora drew seven bidders at the Division of Highways February 28 opening. A project which requires completion within 25 workable days includes pavement overlay and striping. The work will extend 1.9 miles southerly from the Interstate 225 interchange. An apparently successful bid of $334,323 was received from Siegrist Const. Co. of Denver. Resident engineer is Bernard T. Paiz of Denver.
