Non-Irrig. Series Name and Description 6 VIe Ascalon-Blakeland complex, 3 to 15 percent slopes. This map unit is on alluvial and colluvial fans and on moderately dissected to highly dissected plains. This unit is 50 percent Ascalon fine sandy loam and 30 perce Blakeland loamy sand. The components of this unit are so intricately intermingled that it was not practical t map them separately at the scale used. Included in thi unit is about 20 percent Bushman fine sandy loam, Bress sandy loam, and Wages fine sandy loam. The Ascalon soi is deep and well drained. It formed in calcareous loan alluvium. Typically, the surface layer is dark brown fine sandy loam 8 inches thick. The subsoil is sandy clay loam 18 inchgs thick. The substratum to a depth o 60 inches or more is calcareous sandy loam. In some ar the surface layer is loam. Permeability of the Ascalor soil is moderate. Available water capacity is high. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff i slow to medium, and the hazard of water erosion is slig to very high. The hazard of soil blowing is moderate. The Blakeland soil is deep and somewhat excessively drained. It formed in arkosic sandy alluvium and colluvium. Typically, the surface layer is dark grayis brown loamy sand 15 inches thick. The underlying mater to a depth of 60 inches or more is loamy sand. Permeab lity of the Blakeland soil is rapid. Available water capacity is moderate. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is slow, and the hazard of watc erosion is slight. Permeability of this soil is moderately rapid. Available water capacity is moderate. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is slow, and the hazard of water erosion is slight. The hazard of soil blowing is moderate. This unit is used as rangeland and non-irrigated cropland. This shallow, well drained soil is on slightly dissected to highly dissected plains. It formed in calcareous • loamy residuum derived from siltstone. Typically, the surface layer is light brownish gray silt loam 3 inches thick. The underlying material is silt loam 14 inches thick. Siltstone is at a depth of 17 inches. Depth to siltstone ranges from 10 to 20 inches. In some areas the surface layer is loam. Included in this unit are small areas of Keota loam, Kim loam, Mitchell silt loam, and Thedalund loam. Also included are some areas of Rock outcrop. Included areas make up about 20 percent of the total acreage. Permeability of this soil is moderate. Available water capacity is low. Effective rooting depth is 10 to 20 inches. Runoff is medium, and the hazard of water erosion is slight to very high. The hazard of soil blowing is moderate. This unit is used as rangeland. Series Name and Description 32 VIe Kim-Mitchell complex. 6 to 9 percent slopes. This map unit is on moderately dissected to highly dissected plains and alluvial and colluvial fans. This unit is about 45 percent Kim loam and 35 percent Mitchell silt loam. The components of this unit are so intricately intermingled that it was not practical to map them separately at the scale used. Included in this unit are small areas of Raverson loam, Thedalund loam, Keota loam, and soils that have slopes of less than 6 percent. Included areas make up 20 percent of the total acreage. The percentage varies from one area to another. The Kim soil is deep and well drained. It formed in calcareous loamy alluvium and colluvium. Typically, the surface layer is light brownish gray loam 3 inches thick. The subsurface layer is light brownish gray clay loam 4 inches thick. The underlying material to a depth of 60 inches or more is light gray loam. The soil is calcareous throughout. Permeability of the Kim soil is moderate. Available water capacity is high. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is medium to rapid, and the hazard of water erosion is high. The hazard of soil blowing is moderate. The Mitchell soil is deep and well drained. It formed in calcareous loamy alluvium and colluvium. Typically, the surface layer is brown silt loam 7 inches thick. The subsurface layer is very pale brown silt loam 5 inches thick. The underlying material to a depth of 60 inches or more is very pale brown silt loam. The soil is calcareous throughout. Permeability of the Mitchell soil is moderate Available water capacity is high. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is medium to rapid, and the hazard of water erosion is high.
