HomeMy WebLinkAbout870189.tiff RESOLUTION RE: BUDGET REDUCTION OF $50 MILLION FROM HIGHWAY USERS FUND WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, on March 17 the Republican caucus in the Colorado Senate and House approved $122 million in state spending cuts to balance the 1987-88 budget prepared by the Legislature' s Joint Budget Committee, and WHEREAS, $50 million of the spending cuts is the elimination of Nobel funds , which are sales taxes on automotive accessories , from the Highway Users ' Fund , and WHEREAS, the 22% of $50 million reduction in the Highway Users Fund goes to County roads and bridges with direct impact to Weld County being over $528 , 000 annually, of which over $260 ,000 is already budgeted for 1987. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado hereby adamantly protests this action by the State Legislature in that the diversion of the $50 million from the Highway Users Fund is unfair to taxpayers , detrimental to the transportation system of the state, and will hamper economic development.
