The bridge restores highway service just 36 days after a tractor-trailer
accident destroyed the former, steel-truss bridge.
The bridge, offering one 12-ft.-wide lane to motorists, has traffic signals
fok alternate eastbound and westbound use. The load limit is forty tons; trucks

and buses will use the bridge unless their loads are overwide or overweight.
The photograph shown on page one was taken March 8, a week before the
rented Acrow bridge was scheduled to open. During a brief ceremony March 15,
set for 3 p.m. a "ribbon" of "tickets to commerce" (see above) was to be cut,
and persons at the site were to be given souvenir tickets.
The Division of Highways has already advertised the permanent bridge
project to contractors. On a two-week advertisement rather than three weeks,
the bid opening is set for 10:15 a.m. on March 28. The contract calls for a
concrete I-beam bridge open to traffic on June 1. The successful bidder will
have an opportunity to earn a $3,000 per day incentive bonus for opening the
permanent bridge to traffic prior to June 1. Also, liquidated damages will be
assessed at $3,000 per day beyond June 1 if the bridge is not opened. Some
finish work will occur, to be completed within fifteen working days after
June 1.

SADD FOUNDER
TO VISIT COLORADO
Robert Anastas, founder of Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD) , will
visit the Colorado Department of Highways headquarters March 25 prior to ap-
pearances at three of the state's high schools.
The SADD director hopes to motivate more high schools and students here
in establishing SADD chapters. Nationally, the program emphasizes that death
due to drinking and driving in the Number 1 killer facing the student generation.
A news conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the
Highway Department main administration building, 4201 E. Arkansas Ave. in
Denver.
On Monday evening, March 25, Mr. Anastas will speak to students, parents,
and advisors at 7 p.m. in Denver West High School. He plans to visit Berthoud
High School the next day at 9:30 a.m. , then Thornton High School at 1 p.m.
March 27.

Loveland's SADD, with funding provided by the Colorado Division of
Highway Safety through the Thompson R2-J School District, helped arrange Mr.
Anastas' visit to Colorado.
