I-70 GLENWOOD CANYON CONSTRUCTION
WILL AFFECT U.S. 6 TRAFFIC
gY '` SEVEN DAYS A WEEK
Beginning Thursday, September 5, construction firms working in Glenwood
Canyon east of Glenwood Springs will no longer operate under weekend exclusion
conditions. Motorists traveling U.S. 6 through the Canyon are likely to expe-
rience delays any day of the week.
In recent weeks, one way escort car operations have been in effect
from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 7 a.m. to noon Fridays.
The one way procedure may now be used seven days a week, and will continue based
on traffic volumes and the type of work that needs to be done.
Some construction activity may occur through the autumn and winter
months, as current projects continue and new projects are advertised to contractors.
The construction budget for fiscal year 1985-86 includes $42.2 million for I-70
in Glenwood Canyon, compared to $20.3 million budgeted for canyon projects
the previous fiscal year.

DEPARTMENT CONSIDERS
TUNNEL RULES
For several years the Colorado Department of Highways has used traffic
regulations governing the use of the Eisenhower Memorial Tunnel and its twin Edwin
C. Johnson Bore on Interstate 70 about sixty miles west of Denver. In revising
those rules, the agency has begun formal rule making proceedings to consider
all tunnels on the state highway system.
Public comment will be sought at meetings in Denver, Dillon and Glenwood
Springs, followed by formal hearings by the State Highway Commission. The Highway
News issue published September 5, 1985 will offer dates, times and locations re-
garding the meetings and hearings.
Draft rules will be available September 6 from Mr. Larry Karsten, Division.
of Highway Safety, west annex, 4201 E. Arkansas Avenue, Denver, CO 80222.
