l Dear Brian:
I am writing to give you some details on our request for a building
permit to remodel part of the chicken coop on my ranch for use in my home
business. As you recall we design, test coat and manufacture precision
optical components and systems. This activity was approved in USR —797:87:23. -
The space in the coop will be used in lieu of some space we had proposed
to use in a loafing barn and in a silo. We want to make this switch because
access to these structures is poor and remodelling costs are too high. The
coop will give us space at a lower cost. It is also ground level space, which
is important to us because some of the optical testing and fabrication
equipment is bulky and heavy.
The coop will be a low-use shop and laboratory area, where relatively
large pieces of equipment are stored and used. We will also use this area for
repair and refurbishment of equipment required by the business. This is a
frequent activity since we can seldom afford new equipment. The equipment _
will eventually include glass grinding and polishing machines, a drafting
table, a long optical test bench, a scanning electron microscope, a milling
machine and a -small lathe. On the average, one or two people will use this_
space- The approval of this building permit will not result in a change in the
nature or magnitude of- the business activity as defined in our USR
application.
