Department of Highways administrators and staff members have been working with commissioners to develop a forecast of highway needs between now and the year 2001 . The meeting began with a lengthy discussion of additions and deletions to the state highway system. Sixteen road segments were selected for specific discussion, from a list of 55 possible system additions and 51 possible deletions. Twenty two communities were listed for consideration of bypasses, based on requests from local officials, commissioners or the six District Engineers. Commissioners reviewed the technical criteria which help determine where road widening is justified, along with criteria for determining road surface conditions. The intent is to develop a Year 2001 Highway Forecast, which could be formally adopted as early as December of this year. A public involvement process is part of the planning; in fact, the first of four briefings was held the afternoon of July 17 at offices of the Denver Regional Council of Governments. Other meetings were scheduled for July 22 with the Larimer-Weld Council of Governments in Greeley, for July 25 with the Pueblo Area Council of Governments, and for August 8 in Grand Junction with Mesa County and city officials. Public meetings will be scheduled in the future. 000 IXFU 470-1 (36) C-470 SOUTH OF DENVER The Department's Division of Highways accepted 12 bids at the July 18 opening for a Centennial Parkway, South Kipling St. interchange bridges project south of Denver.
