RE: APPROVE LETTER CONCERNING REQUEST TO CLOSE WELD COUNTY ROAD 6
BETWEEN WELD COUNTY ROADS 5 AND 7
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS , the Board received a request from certain residents
of southwestern Weld County to close Weld County Road 6 between
Weld County Roads 5 and 7 , and
WHEREAS, at its meeting of January 18 , 1989 , the Board did,
by Resolution, refer said request to the Engineering Department,
and
WHEREAS, after meeting with the Board at a work session, Drew
Scheltinga, County Engineer, sent a letter to Jeanne Crutchley,
one of the petitioners, advising her that the Board determined
that Weld County Road 6 should not be closed at this time.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the letter sent to
Jeanne Crutchley by Drew Scheltinga be, and hereby is approved.
The above and foregoing Resolution was , on motion duly made
and seconded, adopted by the following vote on the 22nd day of
February, A.D. , 1989 .

RE: Closure of Weld County Road 6 between Weld County Roads 5 and 7
Dear Ms. Crutchley:
The Board of Weld County Commissioners made a field inspection of the roads
in your area, and on this date, considered your request to close Weld
County Road 6 between Weld County Roads 5 and 7 .
As you know, the Commissioners have budgeted money to pave Weld County Road
5 from Weld County Road 6 north to State Highway 52. It is their opinion,
traffic patterns will change upon the completion of Road 5, and the traffic
problem on Road 6 should be reduced. Therefore, the Commissioners decision
is not to close Road 6 until such time the effects of paving Road 5 can be
known.

RE: ACTION OF THE BOARD CONCERNING REQUEST FOR CLOSURE OF WELD
COUNTY ROAD 6 BETWEEN WELD COUNTY ROADS 5 AND 7
WHEREAS , the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, certain residents of southwestern Weld County have
submitted a request to the Board that Weld County Road 6 be closed
between Weld County Roads 5 and 7 , and
WHEREAS, after review, the Board deems it advisable to refer
said request to the Engineering Department for its recommendation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the request from
certain residents of southwestern Weld County for the closure of
Weld County Road 6 between Weld County Roads 5 and 7 be, and
hereby is, referred to the Engineering Department for its
recommendation.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made
and seconded, adopted by the following vote on the 18th day of
January, A.D. , 1989 .

Gentlemen;
As you are well aware, the residents in southwestern Weld County
have a serious problem with traffic due to the landfill located at the
corner of Weld County Roads a and 6, We understand that weight limits
cannot be imposed on Weld County Road 6 and therefore request that the
Board of Commissioners consider closing WCR 6 between WCRds 5 and 7 for
• the following reasons;
1 , Potential severe damage to WCR 6 due to excessive landfill traffic ,
2, Hazards to joggers, bikers, hoireseback riders, children, etc , due to
excessive amount of traffic to the landfill and excessive speed of that
traffic ,
Weld County Rd 6 is a residential area serviced by school buses and
the landfill traffic is a potential hazard to the children,
4, WCR 6 residents must now put up with blowing trash and trash that
falls off trucks headed for the landfill , .
5, If WCR 6 is closed between Rds 5 and 7, the P,0,E, scales could then
be placed at. 2 locations (Hwy 7 and Rd 5, and Rd 8 and Rd 5) to catch
offenders more easily, This would cut back on road damage to Weld
County roads in general , Truck traffic is now avoiding the scales by
using Rd 6 as an alternate route when the scales are in operation,
6, If the Erie annexation proposal i5 finalized, the landfill would
expand to encompass 16. mile of WCR 6 between WCRds 5 and 7 and Weld
County would then be maintaining only a snort stretch of road,
The closure of WCR 6 between Rds 5 and 7 would not cause a problem
to traffic for the following reasons;
1 , Landfill traffic has adequate access to the landfill from the south
on WCR 5, which was built specifically for landfill traffic , and from
the north on WOR 5, which is scheduled to he paved from WCR 6 to Hwy 52
in the spring of 1989,
2, There are no residences on WCR 6 between Rds S and 7 so there would
not be an access problem if WCR 5 were closed,
• As you may or may not be aware, this portion of Weld County is not
only an agricultural area, but a 'residential one as well , We believe
that our quality of life (which is the reason we opted for a rural

lifestyle) and our property values would be maintained by the closure of
WCR 6 between ids 5 and 7, We would like this closure regardless of
whet-her the Erie landfill annexation is approved, due to the already
excessive landfill traffic that we experience,
We respectfully submit the above proposal to the commissioners and
ask for your consideration of same,
