RE: APPROVE REQUEST TO ERECT TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AT THE
INTERSECTION OF WELD COUNTY ROADS 8 AND 19 - DEBORAH KNUCKEY
WHEREAS , the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS , Deborah Knuckey, Transportation Coordinator for
School District RE8 , submitted a request to the Board of County
Commissioners to erect traffic control devices at the intersection
of Weld County Roads 8 and 19 , and
WHEREAS, the Board referred said request to the Engineering
and Road and Bridge Departments for their recommendation, and
WHEREAS, the Board has now been advised that the Engineering
and Road and Bridge Departments recommend that "Stop Ahead" and
"Stop" signs be posted at said intersection for the safety of the
traveling public, and
WHEREAS, the Board deems it advisable to approve the request
of Deborah Knuckey to erect said signs at the intersection of Weld
County Roads 8 and 19 .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the request of
Deborah Knuckey, Transportation Coordinator for School Disrict
RE8 , to erect traffic control devices at the intersection of Weld
County Roads 8 and 19 be, and hereby is, approved.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the appropriate
signs to be posted at said intersection, for the safety of the
general public, must conform to the State manual and
specifications.

ZDear Board of Commissioners :
It has been brought to my attention the potential for a serious
CI accident at County Road 8 and County Road 19 , in southern
Weld County . You may already be aware of this , but just in
case you are not, I feel this should be brought to your
CAI attention.
The problem is an uncontrolled, three-way intersection on a
curve , and at the bottom of a hill . Just by my stating this ,
I ' m sure you can visualize some of the potentional for an
Z accident.
This was brought to my attention by a concerned parent, whose
children ride an Re8 school bus that makes a stop at the top
O and the bottom of the hill . Not only are those children
boarding the bus endangered, but those on the bus as well .
May I add, this road is heavily traveled by oil trucks .
I have consulted with the Colorado State Patrol and they APIIIIIIIIM stated this is an area that has had many accidents , plus a
fatality . Possibly, we can work out a solution to eliminate
LIE much of the danger. I have been to the area and by the aide
of a State Trooper, came up with a feasible solution you may
want to take into consideration. By putting a stop sign at
O the top of the hill on road 19 and putting a warning sign in
advance , this would eliminate the speed at which a vehicle
could enter the intersection . Thus allowing time to yield
J at the intersection.
Hopefully we can get something worked out soon . I will be
looking forward to hearing from you.
