Despite all the smoke and dust, the Dust ;Rowing Meeting, on September 22, was
Cnligi1LEi'Sln≥.;. As UndunderstandthetheCG[commissionersautauthorityCan lands that were
plowed cefore 108A, you can only use the Dust ;Lowing Ordinance. With the Dust
Blowing Ordinance, the County can require a landowner to chisel the plowed
f:.eies when the County receive:: a legitimate complaint i. showing dust being blown
from the alleged f ie...d.
i1y position at the meeting was to emphasize that today, conditions are similar
to those that ..niW.ated the dust blowing problems that occurred the early
1980's. Dur'in;; that period, the adjacent National Grasslands received
c teriaive dal a.g.e to rangelands and fences. it takes decades for the native
veetasicn to recover from accumulations of blown dirt.
Forest Service personnel wili be cneckint; the Keota area for drifts of dirt on
a periodic basis. Our ooa_ is to detect the damage and get the plowed fie-as
chiseled before extensive damage occurs. If you bear of dirt accuniuiatin
before us, don't hesitate to ask Us to inspect the area and collect data, if
necessary.
