BOX 732 GREELEV, COLORADO 60632 [1 COLORADO February 17, 1988 Nomie Ketterling 835 Collins Avenue Eaton, CO 80615 Dear Ms. Ketterling: The Board of Weld County Commissioners has considered your request regarding the "Dead End" sign located on Cedar Court. The Commissioners felt the original request by the residents on Cedar Court was legitimate. The sign was placed in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and relocating it would not be appropriate nor would it change the visual impact to your property if located on the east side of Cedar Court. Therefore, the Commissioners' decision is to leave the sign in place. Sincerely e K, . . _7_,. ti .J ‘..„,_,_,,. , Drew L. Scheltinga ATTACH A COPY OF ALL RELEVANT DATA (Reports, memos, letters, etc. ) BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM/ISSUE: The Commissioners have received a request to remove a "Dead End" sign placed at the northeast corner of Collins Avenue (Weld County Road 74) and Cedar Court in Eaton. Nomie Ketterling feels the sign is an eyesore on her property. Attached is a photograph looking north on Cedar Court that shows the Ketterling residence as well as the neighbor to the west. Unfortunately, the snow in the street does not allow the photograph to clearly indicate the location of Cedar Court. The "Dead End" sign is clearly visible. It does appear the sign sits in the middle of the Ketterling yard. The garage immediately left of the sign is a part of the Ketterling residence. Cedar Avenue swings to the left around the garage and then back behind it. This alignment of the roadway extenuates the visual impact of the "Dead End" sign being in the middle of the Ketterling's yard. The sign was placed at the request of the residents on Cedar Court and is placed in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. _ . WHAT OPTIONS EXIST FOR THE BOARD? (Include consequences, impacts, costs, etc. of options): The option is simply whether or not to remove the sign. 88012"7 RECOMMENDATION TO THE BOARD: Relocating the sign in the Ketterling's yard or placing it on the opposite side of the street is not recommended because it has been placed in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Relocating it in the yard would not change the visual impact and relocating it on the opposite side of the street would be incorrect because warning signs are anticipated on a driver's right hand side. The sign was originally placed at the request of the residents on Cedar Court because of frequency of traffic expecting to access the town of Eaton and having to turn around. The original request was thought to be legitimate and the sign placed. I have no factual information, such as traffic counts, to indicate how much of a problem really existed. If the original request was legitimate the sign should stay in place even though it may detract from the appearance of the Ketterling's yard.
