DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES
MASS TRANSIT GRANTS
The Colorado Department of Highways has received federal approval
of three grant requests for rural and specialized transit services totalling
$1,134,397. Funds will provide planning services, vehicles, two way radios,
and operating funds for 16 recipients. The recipients are:
Northwest Colorado Transportation Logan, Morgan, Washington, $178,772
Authority Sedgwick, Yuma, and Phillips

The remaining $89,800 will be used by the Department to provide technical
assistance, training for rural and specialized system managers, a statewide needs
assessment and to administer the three grant programs.

BRO 0008(1) MESA COUNTY ROAD 21
The Department's Division of Highways accepted six bids at the October 31
opening for a bridge replacement on Mesa County Road 21. The project consists
of grading, stabilization, bridge, hot bituminous pavement, and structures,
beginning about five miles north of the intersection with U.S. 6 and 50, and
extending a tenth of a mile northeast across the Highline Canal .
United Companies of Mesa Counties of Grand Junction turned in an apparently
successful bid of $129,487 for the project, which requires completion within
40 working days after its Notice to Proceed. William Nelson of Grand Junction
is resident engineer.

I 70-2(153) TRAFFIC CONTROL SUPPORT IN
GLENWOOD CANYON
Flatiron Structures Company of Longmont turned in an apparently successful
bid of $2,051,500 at the Division of Highways October 31 opening to provide
Glenwood Canyon construction area traffic control support. The firm was sole
bidder on a project which includes flagging, a traffic control supervisor and
construction signing. A contract, if awarded, will cover 1-70 construction from
two miles east of Glenwood Springs extending twelve miles easterly.
Resident engineer R. L. Orton, Glenwood Springs, will coordinate this
contract.

Nov. 21: 9:30 a.m. , Interstate 76 bridges and approaches near Lowell
Blvd. in Adams county, consisting of two bridges, drainage structures, grading,
lighting, topsoil , seeding and mulching, beginning half a mile west of Lowell
Blvd. and extending four tenthsof a mile east, I 76-1(91) and I 76-1(101) .
9:45 a.m. , Denver-Boulder Turnpike improvements at Broadway in
Adams county, consisting of stabilization, bridge, retaining walls, hot bituminous
pavement, topsoil , seeding and mulching, structures, guardrail , and striping, located
on U.S. 36 beginning one tenth of a mile west of the Broadway interchange and
extending three tenths of a mile east, BRF 036-1(30) .
10:00 a.m. , 3ridge replacement on S.H. 202 west of Rocky Ford
in Otero county, consisting of grading, stabilization, structures, a bridge,
striping, hot bituminous pavement and guardrail , beginning 1.4 miles west of
Rocky Ford at a crossing of the Catlin Canal and extending one tenth of a
west, BRO 0009(3) .
10:15 a.m. , Minor widening of S.H. 59 south of Haxton in Phillips
county, consisting of grading, hot bituminous pavement, stabilization, structures,
seeding and mulching, beginning about one and one half mile south of Haxtun and
extending 1.7 miles north to the intersection with U.S. 6 in Haxtun, SR 0059(15) .
10:30 a.m. , Culvert replacement on S.H. 145 at Cornet Creek in
Telluride, consisting of concrete box culvert, stabilization, sidewalk, curb,
and gutter, in San Miguel county, RS 0145(11) .
10:45 a.m. , Minor realignment, guardrail work located on S.H. 340,
at two locations, 3.2 and 5.7 miles east of Fruita, consisting of grading,
structures, stabilization, seeding, hot bituminous pavement and guardrail , located
in Mesa county, HES 00.03(21).
