Enclosed for your review and comment is a draft copy of the Forecast of the
Year 2001 Highway System. This Forecast is a comprehensive compilation and
evaluation of highway requirements and requested additions that the Colorado
State Highway Commission has received through the county hearing process. It
is intended to provide a general description of the highway system for the
year 2001.
The Highway Commission has acknowledged a need for a composite analysis of the
demands upon, and the expectations of, the state highway system by the year
2001. In February of 1985, the Commission passed a resolution directing
Department of Highways' staff to prepare a forecast of the needs for the Year
2001 highway system. Since that time, the Commission and Department staff
have held monthly workshops to discuss topics such as roadway capacity,
surface condition, county and local requests, and other elements that now
comprise this Forecast.
The Highway Commission has scheduled its annual Project Request hearings
(County Hearings) in Denver on November 7; Grand Junction on November 8; and
Colorado Springs on November 18. At these hearings, the Commission
anticipates receiving from you your input relating to the Year 2001 Forecast,
in addition to your normal Five Year Program requests.
In the event you would like to discuss this Draft Forecast with your State
Highway Commissioner and District Engineer in advance of the November County
Hearings, please contact them to arrange such a meeting. The Department will
be participating in a series of meetings around the State to discuss the Draft
Forecast. It would be valuable if you would share the Draft Forecast with
your constituents to further the possibility of input into the Final
Forecast. If you are able to provide written comments on the Forecast, please
mail them no later than November 2nd to:
