ANOTHER HISTORIC BRIDGE
AVAILABLE FOR RELOCATION
Rio Grande County is offering to donate the State Bridge, pictured above,
to any person or organization interested in relocating and rehabilitating it.
The State Fridge, which crosses the Rio Grande River 6.1 miles west of Del Norte,
was built in 1908 by the State Engineer's Office. It consists of two spans:
the original 125'-3" pin-connected Pratt through truss (overall height 19'-6" )
and a 45' rigid-connected Pratt pony truss added about 20 years later. Roadway
width is 13'-4" . It has been determined eligible for inclusion in the National
Register of Historic Places.
Depending on the distance of the move, the through truss may or may not
need to be dismantled. Without dismantling, the estimated cost of relocating
both spans, including hauling and erection on new abutments, is $71 ,200. If dis-
mantling is required, the total cost is an estimated $94,480. Moving the through
truss alone would cost $10,000 less than the above estimates .

These figures include some restoration of the structure, such as sand-
blasting and painting, as well as overhead and profit costs. A grant of up to
$12,000 ($8,800 for the through truss and $3,200 for the pony truss shown in
the foreground of the photo) will be available to the bridge recipient to help
defray the relocation cost.
All potential recipients will be required to submit a written "relocation
program" detailing the proposed use and new location of the bridge and the re-
sources available to assure its future maintenance.
Proposals for the relocation of the bridge will be reviewed with pref-
erence to plans which would relocate both spans of the bridge together in order
to preserve its present configuration. Second preference will be given to pro-
posals which would relocate an individual span. In either case, preservation
covenants would be included in the bridge bill of transfer. If there is no accept-
able offer which would meet these requirements, the structure may be transferred
without preservation covenants.
For more specific information regarding the structure and requirements for
relocation, rehabilitation and maintenance, interested parties should contact
Staff Historian Vicki Rottman or Rebecca Herbst at the Colorado Department of High-
ways, (303) 757-9448. Proposals will be accepted until August 6, 1985, and
offers reviewed for a 30-day period thereafter.

SR 0006(13) U.S. 6 NEAR DILLON
The Department's Division of Highways accepted three bids, and rejected
one bid for lack of Bid Bond, at the June 6 opening for a project to reconstruct
2.1 miles of U.S. 6 between Dillon and Keystone. Flatiron Paving Company of
Greeley turned in an apparently successful bid of $1 ,112,222 for construction
which begins 2.2 miles east of the I-70 interchange and extends easterly.
The project, to be completed within 75 working days after its Notice to
Proceed, consists of grading, stabilization, structures, hot bituminous pavement,
signing, striping, topsoil , seeding and mulching.

MP 06-0034-09 U.S. 34 IN LOVELAND
Resurfacing a segment of U.S. 34 in Loveland drew four bidders at the
Division of Highways June 6 opening. A project providing hot bituminous pavement
overlay begins three tenths of a mile east of the U.S. 287 junction and extends
3.7 miles east.
An apparently successful bid of $542,737 was received from Coulson
Excavating Company, Inc. of Loveland. Resident engineer is L. V. Garton of Loveland;
the project requires completion within thirty workable days after it starts.
