HomeMy WebLinkAbout810370.tiff April 20, 1981 Commissioner Chuck Carlson Weld County Dear Commissioner Carlson : This letter is to register our shock and alarm at the plans of Rocky Mountain Energy to operate an open-pit coal mine adjacent. to our homes. Our foremost concern is for the health and safety of our children. The soft coal that would be mined is notorious for not producing much heat, and the market for such inferior coal is practically non-existent. It makes us wonder if the operation which would produce the undesirable conditions listed below could be for a tax write-off purpose. Two square miles will be subjected to ugly open pits, machinery, noise, dust and air polution. Traffic in the area will be greatly increased and property values will be greatly reduced. We understand that there is a lot of sulphur underground that is capable of creating the odor of rotten eggs when mixed with the underground water which could be a result of creating the pits. There is also the very real danger of lowering the underground water table. Many people in our community depend entirely on their wells for their water supply. Our water and environment are much more precious than the questionable pursuit of soft coal in this location! Please don't let this happen to our community! Very truly yours, 1A1SSlUMf 722-1-e_ 1011 ' .. Lori and David Gehricke 5617 Aspen Avenue PS'R+ S1 Erie, GO 80516 303/828-3602 410370 c°`°' Pt o ll 3 aREELE' Hello
