Box 758 COUNTY, CO Greeley, CO 80632 February 26,2026 Highway Safety Office (HSO) Colorado Department of Transportation 2829 W. Howard Pl. Denver, CO 80204 RE: Letter of Support for FY27 Highway Safety Office Community Traffic Safety Grant-NFRMPO's 2027 Northern Colorado Traffic Safety Roundtable To Whom It May Concern, On behalf of Weld County, I am writing to express strong sup port for the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization(NFRMPO) proposal to host a Northern Colorado Traffic Safety Roundtable during Federal Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 under the Community Traffic Safety Grant Program administered by the Colorado Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Office (HSO). Between the beginning of 2022 and the end of 2024, 144 people lost their lives on roadways within the NFRMPO region. These tragic losses underscore the urgent need for coordinated data-driven traffic safety efforts across Northern Colorado. While individual communities are actively working to improve roadway safety, traffic crashes do not stop at jurisdictional boundaries.Strengthening regional coordination will directly support local efforts to reduce fatalities and serious injuries. The proposed Roundtable will provide an important opportunity for Weld County to collaborate with neighboring jurisdictions, federal and state partners, law enforcement, public health professionals, school districts, and community organizations around shared safety priorities. By enhancing regional understanding of crash trends,high-risk behaviors, and vulnerable road user safety, this effort will help our community better align local strategies with regional and statewide safety goals. Participation in this regional Roundtable will support our ability to identify effective safety approaches, strengthen partnerships, and position our community for future safety-focused initiatives and funding opportunities. The development of a shared regional action framework will further help ensure collaboration extends beyond the event itself and translates into coordinated next steps. Weld County values the NFRMPO's leadership in convening partners around this critical issue and plans to participate in the Roundtable and related coordination activities. We believe this effort will enhance our local traffic safety initiatives and support long-term progress toward reducing and ultimately eliminating traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries. For these reasons, we strongly endorse this proposal and urge favorable consideration of FY2027 HSO funding.Supporting this Roundtable represents a meaningful investment in regional safety collaboration that will directly benefit communities across Northern Colorado.
