Re: Percolation Test Results
Markham P.U.D. —2 Percolation Test Sites
Weld County, Colorado
EEC Project No. 04-01-330
Mr. Markham:
On December 14, 15 and 16, 2004, Earth Engineering Company, Inc. (EEC) personnel
completed the percolation testing at the two sites you requested for the above referenced
project. To complete the site percolation testing, EEC personnel advanced one (1) soil
profile boring to a depth of approximately 8 feet below present site grade and completed
six (6) 6-inch nominal diameter percolation test holes to depths of approximately 3 feet at
each site. After the percolation test holes had presoaked for approximately 24 hours,
EEC personnel returned to the site to perform the percolation test in the shallow
boreholes. The results of the percolation testing and logs of the 8 feet deep borings are
included with this report.
The materials encountered in the profile boring at the percolation test site #1 located on
Lot 2 generally consisted of brown sandy lean clay. The materials encountered in the
profile boring at the percolation test site #2 located on Lot 4 generally consisted of brown
to light brown sandy lean clay along with an increasing amount of sand at a depth of
approximately 4 feet below present site grades. At the time of drilling and approximately
48 hours after drilling, no groundwater was observed in the test borings.
The percolation tests performed indicated an average percolation rate of approximately
83.3 minutes per inch at the percolation site #1 (Lot 2) and an average percolation rate of
approximately 22.2 minutes per inch at the percolation site #2 (Lot 4). Weld County
Health Department regulations require a percolation rate between 5 and 60 minutes per
inch to use a conventional absorption system. Weld County standards also require that
neither groundwater nor bedrock be encountered within 6 feet below ground surface in

order to use a conventional absorption field. Based on our measured percolation rates
and on our observations of the profile borings, the areas tested appeared to meet the
County requirements for a conventional septic system at percolation test area #2 (Lot 4).
However, based upon our measured percolation rates at percolation test area #1 (Lot 2),
an engineered system would be required for the lot. A combined
evapotranspiration/absorption ISDS could be considered for this lot. Weld County
guidelines for proximity to natural and manmade site features should be addressed when
siting the absorption fields.
We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you in this project. If you have any
questions regarding this report, or if we can be of further service to you in any way,
please do not hesitate to contact us.
Very truly yours,
