RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES ON WELD COUNTY
ROAD 59 SOUTH OF STATE HIGHWAY 52
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the
Board that three "No Parking On Shoulder" signs be installed on Weld County Road 59 south of
State Highway 52, to ensure safety to the traveling public, and
WHEREAS, the Board has determined that said traffic control devices are necessary for
the protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works be, and hereby is, directed to
install three "No Parking On Shoulder" signs on Weld County Road 59 south of State Highway
52, for the safety of the general public, and said signs shall conform to the State Manual of
Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 10th day of March, A.D., 2004.

COLORADO• SUBJECT: Signing on WCR 59, S. ofSH 52
A service call was received from Commissioner Masden on 2/10/04. (See attached) His concern is
the parking of vehicles along the east side of WCR 59 adjacent to the school.
I made a site visit on 2/20/04 to verify the parking practices. It was apparent that vehicles have been
using the east shoulder for parking. (See attached photo)This potentially could be a very hazardous
practice since the shoulder is only 2'-5'wide.Vehicles that park on the shoulder would be blocking a
portion of WCR 59 since they could not get far enough off the road before falling into a steep ditch.
Based upon a site review, I would recommend that we install three R8-3 signs, "No Parking"with
supplemental plaques"On Shoulder"in accordance with the MUTCD. I would recommend that we
install the signs approximately 150', 350', and 550' feet south of SH 52.
