RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF "NO PARKING" SIGNS ON WELD COUNTY
ROAD 27 BETWEEN WELD COUNTY ROADS 4 AND 6
WHEREAS , the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County,
Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home
Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the
affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS , the Weld County Department of Engineering has
recommended that "No Parking" traffic devices should be installed
along the west side of Weld County Road 27 between Weld County
Roads 4 and 6 , and
WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering recommends that three
"No Parking" sjgns be placed at said location, and
WHEREAS, the Board, upon the recommendation of the Department
of Engineering, has determined that said traffic devices are
necessary for the protection of the general public, and
WHEREAS , the Board further deems it advisable to direct the
Sheriff 's Department to patrol the area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County
Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the Department of
Engineering be, and hereby is , directed to install "No Parking"
signs along the west side of Weld County Road 27 between Weld
County Roads 4 and 6 for the safety of the general public, and
that said signs must conform to the State manual and
specifications.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the Sheriff' s
Department be, and hereby is, directed to patrol said area.

Subject: No Parking Signs - Weld County Road 27
The location at which no parking signs have been requested has
had similar signing in the past. Patrons of the bar park on the
shoulder area and across the road. Because there is no lighting
and because Road 27 carries high speed traffic, a potential
hazard exists.
Because the west shoulder is flat and open for a long distance
from the bar, I do not believe guardrail would be effective. I
think people would drive behind the guardrail to whereever they
wanted to park. Flares could be put on the guardrail to keep
people from driving behind. However, I think it would take a
very long run of guardrail to eliminate the problem. Guardrail
costs approximately $15.00 per lineal foot complete in place. A
300' run of guardrail, which I think would be ineffective would
cost $4,500.00.
I think posts and cable will have the same problems preventing
parking as guardrails. Also, I think very little cost would be
saved because the steel rail for guardrail costs approximately
$3.30 per lineal foot. Cable would be somewhat cheaper but I
believe the savings over guardrail would only be $2.00 to $3.00
per foot.
The other disadvantage to guardrail or cable is that it would
eliminate the existing shoulder thereby narrowing the roadway.
It would also represent a roadside obstacle that could be hit by
other traffic.
Although there are problems in keeping up signs were vandalism is
common, I think the placement of no parking signs would be the
least expensive alternative with the least amount of potential
problems. As we all know, law enforcement of the no parking
restriction is the only answer to the problem.
