BUILDING SITE AND
FOUNDATION DESIGN
EVALUATION
I INSPECTED THE SOILS EXPOSED DURING EXCAVATION FOR THE FOUNDATION AND
FOOTERS AT THE SITE MR. AND MRS CRAIG MC CONNELL HAVE CHOSEN TO BUILD
A HOUSE.
THE LAND SURFACE IS DESIGNATED AS THE STONEHAM LOAM IN THE LOGAN
COUNTY SURVEY BY THE U. S. DEPT. OF AGRICULTURE. SOIL CONSERVATION.
THIS SOIL SURVEY CLASSIFIES THE STONEHAM LOAM HAVING SLIGHT
LIMITATIONS FOR USE AS BUILDING SITES AND THEN DEFINES A SLIGHT
LIMITATION AS INDICATING THE SOIL PROPERTIES ARE FAVORABLE FOR THE
SPECIFIED USE.
THE CLAY LAYER OBSERVED IN THE EAST FOUNDATION TRENCH IS COMMON WITHIN
THE STONEHAM LOAM AND NORMALLY DOES NOT CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS FOR
FOUNDATIONS.
CONSIDERING WHAT I HAVE SEEN AND READ IN REGARD TO THE STONEHAM LOAM
MY ENGINEERING EVALUATION IS THAT THE 24" X 8" FOOTER REINFORCED WITH
TWO #4 RE-BAR IS ADEQUATE IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN 8" FOUNDATION WALL
AND THAT IT WILL SUPPORT THE BUILDING AS PLANNED.
