BOX 758 GREELEY, COLORADO 80632 f, tIi COLORADO November 6, 2000 Jane Canaday 38301 WCR 33 Eaton, CO 80615 Dear Ms. Canaday: In the last several months, the Weld County Public Works Department has received several complaints concerning the intersection at WCR 74 and WCR 19. As you have noted, it is very confusing and is prone to "close calls." The accident history on the intersection has been reviewed, and there were no collisions in 1998 and only one collision in 1999. The Public Works engineering staff has recently performed a traffic study at the intersection. In review of the study, the staff recommended that the Board of County Commissioners approve a plan to reconfigure this intersection to a "Tee" configuration. It will include a free right turn for westbound to northbound traffic with a "yield" restriction. A resolution has been signed by the Board, and the Public Works Department has scheduled the work to implement the changes. Thank you for your input and concern. Sincerely, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Barbara J. Kirkmeyer, Chair Enclosure 2000-2890 ICARDS Harding - Dangerous intersection Page II ti. From: <JYELLOWBARN@aol.com> To: <charding@co.weld.co.us> Date: 10/19/00 3:46PM Subject: Dangerous intersection To whom it may concern; Twice in the last 4 months while driving to Windsor, I have come within a few feet of having a wreck. Each time it was because people do not yield and 7 _ infect don't even slow down at the intersection of CR 19 and 74 going west. Luckily I drive defensively and have an excellent record, but unfortunately I .-.i can't control other careless drivers(that's why I drive the much maligned SUV). I have seen atleast 6 incidences where close calls have happened. Since several people roll through or don't stop at all at the existing stop I sign, I have my doubts whether my suggestion will make a difference, but if c it saves a life, I think you should consider putting a stop sign rather than a yield sign entering onto CR 74 from the west. I can't believe there hasen't been a wreck at this intersection yet. If you could please consider a study of the traffic flow and how bad the probllem appears to one who has seen it first-hand. Esther Gerich at the County Commissioners assured me that sending this E-mail would start the process for your consideration. Thank you for your time and hopefully for a remedy before someone is injured or killed.
