I remember you wanted a Fescue/Rye mix for the grasses, but I don't have any idea how many pounds per acre you require. Let me know and I will get this thing sent up to you today. Thanks for your help. -Heather Hathaway USR 1261 Commercial Boarding Kennel (o' dh)is Q WiiptpDEPARTMENT OF PLANNING SERVICES PHONE (970)353-6100,EXT.3540 E-mail address: ess:kog E-mail address:kogle@CO.We1d.CO.US r WELD COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES COLORADO 1555 N. 17TH AVENUE GREELEY, COLORADO 80631 June 19, 2000 • • Ms. Heather L. Hathaway 7673 Weld County Road 6 Brighton, CO 80601 Subject: Proposed Landscape Plan for USR 1261 Dear Ms.,Hathaway: Thank you for submitting your Landscape Plan for the kennel. The Department of Planning Services' has reviewed your landscape plan for the above referenced case and offers the following comments: In general the plant material selected is indicative of the plant palette for the front plains of Colorado, although not all of the plant material identified is nuisance and problem exempt. It has been the experience of the staff landscape architect that Populus sargentii,-Great Plains Popular, is typically a fast growing tree that prefers moist soil conditions. It is also a tree that is weak wooded and susceptible to storm breakage. Further, the roots of this species are highly invasive and may cause severe structural damage. Finally, this is a cotton-bearing tree that is not on the preferred plant material list held by the County. Two shade trees that you may wish to consider as replacements to POPUIUS sargentii are Celtis occidentalis, Hackberry, a drought resistant hardy in all soil types, deciduous tree. Growth habit is upright with a mature height of 40-50 feet and spread of 35-40 feet in optimum conditions. Fraxinus pennsylvanica 'Patmore', Patmore Ash is a tall upright tree that is very hardy and is seedless. It has a rounded growth habit with a mature height of 40-60 feet and spread of 20-40 feet in optimum conditions. Placement of either the Celtis occidentalis or the Fraxinus pennsylvanica 'Patmore' should be at least the minimum spread away from any structure if possible. O 0 Hathaway • June 19,2000 page 2 The ornamental plant material selection, Prunus avium, Mazzard Cherry is typically a species that has been grafted to other cherries (Prunus) at the nursery to create a bloom. From the ornamental stand point, the single white petal flower has a length of the bloom of a few days at most. Prunus avium 'Plena', Double Mazzard Cherry exhibits 1 1/? diameter white petal blooms with length of bloom of up to ten days. Either species is acceptable to the Department of Planning Services'. The Evergreen tree species of Picea pungens `glauca', Colorado Blue Spruce is an excellent selection that will provide good wind and snow protection from winter storms. This plant has stiff rounded needles that exhibits a pyramidal growth habit when "young" while becoming more variable in shape with age. In optimum field conditions it has a mature height of 70-80 feet and spread of 30-35 feet. The size of the selected plant material is acceptable to staff. Please identify the proposed native grasses that will be planted in the surrounding area. Include mix type, if any, and pounds per acre of application. Should you require assistance with this information, please contact our office. As a final note, when delineating the selected plant material on your Site Plan, please show the mature spread. Each species should have a "+" in the center of the circle denoting the center of the tree stem. If you need any further information, please feel free to contact me at the above address, telephone number or e-mail address.
