f& Aril TO: Board of County Commissioners April 20, 2000
VIIDCFROM: Esther E. Gesick, Deputy Clerk to the Board
COLORADO SUBJECT: Continuance of USR #1257 - Jim Docheff/Dochel'f Dairy
On Monday, April 10, 2000, I sent a notice to the County newspaper for Docket #2000-19 to be
published Thursday, April 13, 2000. The hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, April 26, 2000;
however, the newspaper failed to publish the notice which requires that we continue this matter.
The hearing will still need to be called up on April 26th, and I am requesting you to continue the
case to Monday, May 15, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. In order to avoid having all interest parties at the April
26th hearing, I am requesting your approval to send corrected notices to the applicant arid
surrounding property owners giving them the May 15th date for the hearing. There is also time to
Planning staff to post a sign with the May 15th date, and Lee Morrison has been informed and
agrees with the above. Hopefully, this will avoid anyone making an unnecessary trip to the April
26th hearing.
Please indicate whether you approve of continuing this matter to May 15, 2000, with corrected
notices to be mailed out.

RE: CASE NUMBER USR-1257 DOCHEFF DAIRY
Dear Sheri,
Thank you for sending the referral concerning the proposed Docheff Dairy expansion. This Dairy
is located northeast of Union Reservoir north of County Road 28. The applicant has applied to
increase the operations at the dairy to accommodate 1,000 cows.
In 1986, the City of Longmont filed for an enlargement of Union Reservoir. This enlargement
includes part of the property currently owned and used by the Docheff Dairy operation.
However, the expansion of the dairy operations will not impact the eventual enlargement project.
The City of Longmont has no concerns with the expansion of the dairy prov ded that runoff and
waste control have been properly addressed. The referral as shown calls for disposal on the
agricultural lands immediately west of the operation, which should be acceptable. However,
Longmont would like to further suggest ways for increased protection of Union Reservoir from
runoff originating on the dairy operation. The City of Longmont respectfully requests that a copy
of the Manure and Process Wastewater Management Plan be forwarded to us for our review. A.
cooperative program between the dairy operation and Longmont could prove beneficial for both
entities.
Again, thank you for the opportunity to comment on this referral. If you have any questions,
please contact me at 303-651-8336.
