Hempen, Jr. O Director of Public Works/County Engineer COLORADO SUBJECT: Closure of the Old WCR 17 Alignment Intersection with Realigned WCR 17 North of Johnstown The1999 Construction Program included a Safety Project to improve sight distances at the intersection of WCR 17 and WCR 50, one-half mile north of Johnstown. That project was completed. Immediately north of the aforementioned intersection is an oblique angle intersection of a short segment of"old" WCR 17 with the curvilinear WCR 17 (see attached drawing). I request the Board approve closure of this intersection. Given the natural difficulty, which drivers encounter in obtaining proper line of sight at oblique intersections and the effort exerted at the WCR 15/50 intersection to address the same issue, closure of the north intersection seems appropriate. We have previously consulted with the two property owners along the west side of"old" WCR 17 immediately north of WCR 50, and they have no objections to the closure. If approved, the Department will install"No Outlet" signs at the"old" WCR 17/50 intersection and a cul-de-sac immediately south of the closure. m:\wpfles\frank\elose 17-17.wpd 2000-0678 - i\ I \ I II II ,PL LE, BE EEL-_, !II DE >r,l_ a . I ii El I. ,CF I I . , , .
