Re: Weld County Road 4 between 1-76 and Weld County Road 55
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Johann:
Thank you for your letter regarding maintenance on the referenced roadway segment.
This roadway is graded every Monday. Unfortunately, this summer has been unique in that
moisture to assist with grader maintenance operations has been insufficient. This problem
exists, in varying degrees, over all 2,500 miles of the gravel roadway network for which the
Public Works Department is responsible.
A roadway improvement project is planned for WCR 4 from 1-76 easterly to WCR 45. Current
planning anticipates right-of-way and utility relocation work to commence in 2001 with
construction/paving to take place in 2002.
In the interim, the Public Works Department will continue to make every attempt to maintain
WCR 4 within the resources available.
If you have further questions regarding the improvement project or routine maintenance, please
contact Frank B. Hempen, Jr., Director of Public Works/County Engineer at (970)356-4000,
Extension 3750.
Sincerely,
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

Commissioners:
We are writing you today to ask if there is anything you can do to help us with our horrible road. We live on
Weld County Rd. 4,just east of I-76. From I-76 east to road 55 our road is so bad in places that at times it's almost
undrivable. We have talked to the Roads Dept., and they have put gravel down on the road a time or two. This
was very nice for about two days. When we talk them they always seem to have an excuse for the road being so
bad. Either its been too dry out or too wet. We know that numerous people have called the roads dept.,and they
can't seem to get any further than we have. The road is so washboard that it has taken our new vehicles and made
them rattle like they are years old. It doesn't matter what speed you drive on the road,it still tears up the vehicles.
I'm sure none of you would appreciate this happening to your vehicles. It makes us wonder if any of the
commissioners lived on this road,if it would be this bad. Please let us know what can be done to fix this problem.
Sincerely 0 th n
