Scheltinga To Director of Engineering Date July 17, 1984 COLORADO From Jack Si ' fe subject: Traffic Control at Intersection of 35th Avenue & 49th Street This intersection is presently controlled by two "Stop" and two "Stop Ahead" signs . These are placed to stop the traffic approaching from the north on 35th Avenue, the other to stop traffic that is westbound on 49th Street. Traffic flow presently is from the north on 35th Avenue and turning west onto 49th Street; Also from the west on 49th Street and turning north onto 35th Avenue. 35th Avenue and 49th Street including the intersection are of oil base surface. 49th Street to the west of 35th Avenue is of gravel surface and carries much less traffic. A high bank at the northwest corner of the intersection restricts visibility both from the north and the west. Also the traffic from the west turning north onto 35th Avenue are not entering the intersection but are cutting across the intersection causing a traffic hazard and making it almost impossible for those wishing to turn left from 35th Avenue onto 49th Street to do so. My recommendation to control this problem would be in rebuilding of the intersection and the installing of traffic control islands . An aid although I do not believe a solution, would be in the installing of a third "Stop" and "Stop Ahead" to control eastbound traffic on 49th Street at the intersection of 35th Avenue making this a 3-way stop.
