Statement
This matter comes before the Commission for
consideration of whether to close this docket . The Commission
opened this docket on October 14 , 1998 , to investigate
significant failures of the 911 system operated by U S WEST
Communications Inc . ( "USWC" ) , and other local exchange
providers . Decision No. C98-1007 . Certain areas of USWC' s
service area had suffered component failures which prevented
residents from using the 911 system for hours at a time . Th _s
docket was to investigate the specific failures and potential
single point failures which could disable the 911 system. That
investigation has been concluded, and resulted in the opening of
a rulemaking docket through a separate Commission oxdef .
Keeping this docket active serves no further purpose .
