RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES ON WELD COUNTY
ROAD 65 AT WELD COUNTY ROADS 8 AND 10
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the
Board that "Yield" signs be installed on Weld County Road 65 at Weld County Road 10, to
ensure safety to the traveling public, and
WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the
Board that "Stop" signs be installed on Weld County Road 65 at Weld County Road 8, to
ensure safety to the traveling public, and
WHEREAS, the Board has determined that said traffic control devices are necessary for
the protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works be, and hereby is, directed to
install "Stop" and "Yield" signs on Weld County Road 65 at Weld County Roads 8 and 10, for
the safety of the general public, and said signs shall conform to the State Manual of Uniform
Traffic Control Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 11th day of October, A.D., 2000.

COLORADO
11w Public Works Department received a complaint that sig it distance was Iirniled at Me
inicrseetion of WCR 10 and WCR 65 and a "stop" sign was needed. A sight-distance >trily 's is
conducted. Sight distance is only restricted at this intersection dur ig the high corn season. It i s !) )!
appropriate to slop traffic 24 hours a day. 7 days a week, 365 dais a year for a seasonal clop. 1
volume study was also conducted. There are approximately 450 v:hides using this inter-:cc:for n
any given day. A review of the accident records for 1998 and 199') indicated no accidents.

Based on the above this intersection does not warrant a "stop" sign at this time.
The warrants for a yield sign per Section 2B-8 of the Manual of r tni/brni Traffic Conan'l ! c c,
are:
I. At the entrance to an intersection where it is necessary to assign right-ol-way and
where the safe approach speed on the entrance exceeds 10 miles per hour. /)a a
the substantially higher volume on WC'R 65, it is appr opriate to assign right or
that roadway. The approach speed to this into-seen( n is 55 mph.
2. On the entrance ramp to an expressway where the acceleration lane is not
provided. Not applicable.
3. At intersections on a divided highway where the median between the roadway s is
more than 30 feet wide. Not applicable

acceleration lane. Not applicable
5. At any intersection where a special problem exists and where an engineering study
indicates the problem to be susceptible to correction by use of the YIELD sign.
With the sudden incrcrase in traffic due to die school, n any'drivers unfamiliar i u/i
