RE:CTSI Claim 200 WEL 010/Mark Hanson
Dear Folks,
I am extremely concerned about the treatment one of my employees, Mark Hanson, is receiving from our
county government. For the record let me refresh your memory of several facts. On January 25, 2000 Mark
was making a left hand turn from O Street onto Rocky Road. There was a car immediately behind him and a
county dump truck behind the car.Apparently,the dump truck drive driver decided to pass both vehicles at
that intersection. Fortunately, Mark was almost through the intersection before the impact and the collision
damage was limited to the left rear corner of this van.
I was the first party on the scene approximately 5 minutes after the collision. Shortly after my arrival two
county employees and a maintenance truck showed up and were preparing to alter the accident scene by
straightening the truck bumper and moving the truck. Upon my insistence that they wait for the police they
reluctantly agreed to wait. My first concern is how county employees would not be trained or aware that
altering with an accident scene before the arrival of the police is inappropriate and perhaps against the
law.
Now, I am in receipt of a CTSI letter (enclosed) that indicates they are blaming the negligence on Mark. the
victim who was rear ended by a county driver passing in an intersection! The fact that the county driver
received a citation for careless driving only"mystifies"whoever this CTSI person in Denver is. If it was
my employee at fault I would certainly want to do the right thing and settle for the damages he was obviously
responsible for.
There was a time, and I hope there still is, when I believed that responsible government would cdso take
measures to right a wrong such as this.
