The Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, met in regular session as the Board of
Social Services in full conformity with the laws of the State of Colorado at the regular place of meeting in
the Weld County Centennial Center, Greeley, Colorado, August 9, 2000, at the hour of 9:00 a.m.
ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by the Chair and on roll call the following members were
present constituting a quorum of the members thereof:
Commissioner Barbara J. Kirkmeyer, Chair
Commissioner M. J. Geile, Pro-Tem
Commissioner George E. Baxter- EXCUSED
Commissioner Dale K. Hall
Commissioner Glenn Vaad
Also present:
County Attorney, Bruce T. Barker
Acting Clerk to the Board, Esther E. Gesick
Comptroller, Claud Hanes
MINUTES: Commissioner Geile moved to approve the minutes of the Board of Social Services meeting
of August 7, 2000, as printed. Commissioner Hall seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously.
WARRANTS: Claud Hanes, Comptroller, presented the warrants for approval by the Board in the amount
of $2,456.38. Commissioner Hall moved to approve the warrants as presented by Mr. Hanes.
Commissioner Geile seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
ADDITIONS: Commissioner Vaad moved to add the following under New Business: 1) Consider Revised
Application for Child Care Quality Expansion Grant and authorize Chair to sign. Seconded by
Commissioner Hall, the motion carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS:
CONSIDER REVISED APPLICATION FOR CHILD CARE QUALITY EXPANSION GRANT AND
AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN: Judy Griego, Director of Social Services, stated the Department received
notification that it was only awarded $40,000.00 of the$60,000.00 originally requested. Ms. Griego stated
this revised application requests $19,600.00 for incentive, retention, and consumer education activities,
$17,000.00 for training, and $3,400.00 for administrative costs. She further stated these funcs will help
to expand the United Way of Weld County Incentive and Mentor Programs, create and implement a
Professional Development Plan with approximately 20 child care providers, and develop consumer
education materials for the Child Care Resource and Referral Program. Commissioner Vaad moved to
approve said revised application and authorize the Chair to sign. Seconded by Commissioner Gale, the
motion carried unanimously. Commissioner Geile commented this application is being submitted as part

of a combined effort among Weld County, City of Greeley, Aims Community College, City of Evans, and
School District 6 to provide better child care throughout Weld County.
Let the minutes reflect that the above and foregoing actions were attested to and respectfully submitted
by the Acting Clerk to the Board.
There being no further business, this meeting was adjourned at 9:05 a.m.
