RE: APPROVE INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES ON WELD COUNTY
ROAD 55 AT WELD COUNTY ROAD 20
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Weld County Department of Public Works has recommended to the
Board that"Stop" signs be installed on Weld County Road 55 at Weld County Road 20, to
ensure safety to the traveling public, and
WHEREAS, the Board has determined that said traffic control devices are necessary for
the protection of the general public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, that the Department of Public Works be, and hereby is, directed to
install "Stop" signs on Weld County Road 55 at Weld County Road 20, for the safety of the
general public, and said signs shall conform to the State Manual of Uniform Traffic Control
Devices.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 18th day of December, A.D., 2000.

COLORADO SUBJECT: Intersection Study WCR 20 and WCR55
The Department of Public Works received a complaint that sight distance was limited at the
intersection of WCR 20 and WCR 55, and a stop sign was needed. A sight-distance study was
conducted. The intersection has a blind corner on the south leg. WCR 20 extends two miles east and
west of this intersection. WCR 55 extends only one mile north and south. A review of the accident
records for the last two years indicated no accidents.
The warrants for a stop sign per Section 2B-5 of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices are:
1. Intersection of a less important road with a main road where application of the
normal right-of-way rule is unduly hazardous. The traffic volumes on both WCR
20 and WCR 55 are below 200 vph. With this low volume the normal right-of-way
rules should apply.
2. Street entering a through highway or street. WCR 20 extends two miles east and
west of this intersection justifying it as a through street, but the existing surface is
gravel.
3. Unsignalized intersection in a signalized area. There are no signalized intersections
in the vicinity of this intersection.
4. Other intersections where a combination of high speed,restricted view,and serious
accident record indicates a need for control by the STOP sign. As stated before,
there is insufficient stopping sight distance at this intersection.
I recommend stop signs be installed on WCR 55.
