Re: Dairy Expansion
Dear Sirs:
I wish to expand my dairy in the future. I need a letter of approval from you and that it is
okay to expand my dairy to approximately 2392 dairy cows. It is my understanding that
the limiting factor is the number of dairy cows per adjacent acre I own.
I have an existing permit (S.U.P. #00302 already approved for approximately 500 dairy
cows) on part of my property. I understand that I am allowed 4 dairy cows per acre. I
own land that is adjacent to my dairy of approximately 473 acres that is 3 3/4 miles east of
Ault. I also own another farm(approximately 140 acres) northeast of dairy but it is not
adjacent to the land. It is my understanding that the policy that is set in place, that I am
allowed to expand to 1892 dairy cows (473 acres times 4 dairy cows= 1892 dairy cows)
and plus 500 dairy cows (from S.U.P. #00302 permit)to give me a maximum of 2392
dairy cows without any special public hearings and conditions to be approved. If I wish
to expand any further, then I must buy more land adjacent to the 473 acres.
If the 2392 dairy cows is acceptable for this dairy expansion for this location, I need a
letter of approval to confirm this expansion. If the number is incorrect, what is number of
dairy cows would I be allowed to have without going through special hearings?
