HIGHWAY COMMISSIONERS REORGANIZE
State Highway Commissioners elected officers at their annual reorganization
meeting held in Denver September 14. The meeting was a half-day session preced-
ing the autumn road inspection trip to northwestern Colorado.
The commissioners elected Joseph A. "Tony" Fortino, Pueblo auto dealer,
as chairman for a year's term. He had previously served as vice chairman.
The vice chairman is King H. Harris, a construction contractor who since
March 1978 has represented the Denver district on the highway commission. Harris
had previously been elected vice chairman September 26, 1980 for a one year term.
Homer L. Bruton, Highway Department Administrative Officer, was retained
as commission secretary.
Other commissioners are Grant Wilkins, a Littleton businessman; Charles L.
Hanavan, Jr. , Cheyenne Wells farmer-rancher; George G. Alderman, a farm equipment
dealer in Colorado Springs; C. W. "Bill" Brennan, rancher, of Rifle; James Golden,
Grand Junction attorney; Bill E. Roundtree, Durango engineering contractor; and
Richard J. Albrecht, of the Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce.
Commissioners are appointed by the governor with the consent of the Colo-
rado Senate. They serve four-year terms, representing nine geographic areas.
Prior to March 17, 1983 there were eight commissioners and a member-at-large; state
legislators then redesignated districts east of the Front Range to make way for a
new district in the central part of Colorado.
