BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES
WELD COUNTY, COLORADO
JANUARY 8, 2001

The Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, met in regular session as the Board of
Social Services in full conformity with the laws of the State of Colorado at the regular place of meeting in
the Weld County Centennial Center, Greeley, Colorado, January 8, 2001, at the hour of 9:00 a.m.
ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order by the Chair and on roll call the following members were
present, constituting a quorum of the members thereof:
Commissioner M. J. Geile, Chair
Commissioner Glenn Vaad, Pro-Tem
Commissioner William H. Jerke
Commissioner David E. Long
Commissioner Robert D. Masden
Also present:
County Attorney, Bruce T. Barker
Acting Clerk to the Board, Esther E. Gesick
Director of Finance and Administration, Don Warden
MINUTES: Commissioner Vaad moved to approve the minutes of the Board of Social Services meeting
of December 27,2000, as printed. Commissioner Long seconded the motion,which carried unanimously.
Commissioner Jerke moved to approve the minutes of the Board of Social Services meeting of January 3,
2001, as printed. Commissioner Masden seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously.
WARRANTS: Don Warden, Director of Finance and Administration, presented the warrants for approval
by the Board in the amount of $5,115.54. Commissioner Vaad moved to approve the warrants as
presented by Mr. Warden. Commissioner Long seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS:
CONSIDER GENERAL ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT FOR SERVICES AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN
- WELD COUNTY DENTAL SOCIETY: Judy Griego, Director of Social Services, stated $10,000.00 of
General Assistance funds will be used to provide dental services to low-income Weld County residents.
Ms. Griego stated for these services, the Department of Social Services will reimburse the Dental Society
a maximum of$165.00 per person, per year,and the patient will continue to be responsible for ten percent
of the bill up to $16.50. Commissioner Vaad moved to approve said agreement and authorize the Chair
to sign. Seconded by Commissioner Masden, the motion carried unanimously.
CONSIDER GENERAL ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT FOR SERVICES AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN
-WELD COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF OPTOMETRISTS AND OPHTHALMOLOGISTS: Ms.Griego stated
this is an ongoing agreement to provide $24,000.00 in General Assistance funds to provide vision care to
low-income Weld County residents. Ms. Griego stated due to higher product of overhead costs, various
reimbursement rates have been increased over last year as indicated in her memorandum, dated

January 3, 2001. She stated the patient will be responsible for a $12 co-payment. Commissioner Vaad
moved to approve said agreement and authorize the Chair to sign. Seconded by Commissioner Masden,
the motion carried unanimously.
CONSIDER COORDINATION AGREEMENT AND MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING AND
AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN -WELD FOOD BANK: Ms. Griego stated under this agreement, the Weld
Food Bank will employ outreach workers whose primary responsibility is to outreach, recruit, and support
clients who need Food Stamp Program services. She stated the agreement is non-financial, and the
Department of Social Services will provide the necessary technical assistance and supportforthe outreach
workers to ensure the clients meet the guidelines of the Food Stamp Program. In response to
Commissioner Vaad, Ms.Griego stated the outreach workers will not be located at the food bank;however,
two TANF workers will be working from the modular at the site. Commissioner Vaad moved to approve
said agreement and memorandum of understanding and authorize the Chair to sign. Seconded by
Commissioner Masden, the motion carried unanimously.
Let the minutes reflect that the above and foregoing actions were attested to and respectfully submitted
by the Acting Clerk to the Board.
There being no further business, this meeting was adjourned at 9:15 a.m.
