Bear Sir:
I am Dr. C. R. Patterson, An Osteopathic Physician , and
I have lived and practiced in Ault since 1941. I am writiigg
you in support of locating a medium security prisonin the Ault
area. Our town has grown a little in population during this
time but the business district and the school system has declined
markedly. Our school is still rated a clss AA school but it
does not have that many students in high school. We have tried
to attract small manufacturing companies and new businesses
to locate in our town but have been unsuccessful so far. We
desperately need more people in our town and more students in
our schools. We feel that a medium security prison would bring
an appreciable number of new families into our town which
would also help our school enrollment. There are a number of
empty houses in Ault and neighboring towns and a new addition
on the west edge of town has building sites available.
Location of the prison in the Ault area should have many
advantages for the state also. These include good water supply
and readily available goods and need services. Many transpott-
ation miles would be saved over a location on the western slope
or eastern parts of the state. It is only llmiles to North
Colorado Medical Center where every specialty is well covered.
A considerable labor force would be readily available.
There has been some minor oppositionto the idea of locating
the prison in the Ault area but I feel that it is due to allack
of understanding of what the facility is or due to an inborn
fear of the term - prison. I can assure you that the vast majority
of the citizens concerned are in favor of it being located
here or are neutral on the subject .
I know that the Ault Community would benefit greatly if
the prison was to be located in this area and I feel the Ault
area would be an ideal site for the state to locate the prison*
