The Family Educational Network of Weld County is requesting $70,000.00 for playground
equipment for the Jefferson site, in Greeley, Colorado, and the site located in Grand
Junction Colorado.
The current playground at Jefferson is currently shared with the Elementary School, and
is dangerous and not appropriate for preschool aged children. Furthermore the children
must walk around the school building to reach the playground, which is especially difficult
for children with disabilities. The playground equipment is also geared toward elementary
school age children, and therefore, poses potential danger to preschool age children. We
are currently not opening the Jefferson site for Migrant/Seasonal Head Start (unless it is
absolutely necessary) for this reason. This was noted as a finding at our last Program
review. The school district has agreed to donate land for a preschool playground, closer
to the classrooms.
The playground equipment in Grand Junction, is sparse and not adequate for the number
of children served. As well as being sparse, it is more appropriate for preschool age
children and we are in need of developmental equipment for the infant and toddler age
range. Previously,we shared playground equipment with the school district, and since our
recent move we do not have the advantage of using their equipment.
Playground structures: 2 x $27,500.00 = $55,000.00
ADA accessibility surfaces, fencing, and ground cover: $15,000.00
Total: $70,000.00
IN-KIND CONTRIBUTIONS/NON-FEDERAL MATCH
Donated Space & Time From District & Volunteer Hours: $15,750.00
Weld County Donated Indirect Costs: $1,750.00
TOTAL: $17,500.00
