While WCR 5 is one of the best paved roads in Weld County, it does have a minor imperfection in the pavement, and unfortunately that location is in front of your house. Jeff Jerome, Public Works Operations Division Manager, will design a repair strategy and program the repairs into this maintenance season. Quality control has become a steadfast focus on our roads and I apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions please contact Jeff at (970)356-4000, Ext. 3754. Sincerely, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS M. J. Geile, Chair cc: Frank B. The last time an assessment was done on this property, I wrote to your office to complain about the condition of Weld County Road 5. In particular the noise created by trash trucks as they come and go from the two landfills to the south of my property. At that time my assessment was lowered. Since then the road has been repaved but the job that was done is deplorable. If a private contractor had done the work, I doubt that Weld County would have accepted the job. The problem was that the crew ran out of pavement right in front of my house less than 150 feet from where they intended to meet the previous days paving. Instead of creating a proper joint, the pavement was raked to meet existing and the crew went home. When the work continued the crew simply started where they left off creating a hump that has only gotten worse. The problem is bad enough that the empty trash boxes of the roll-offs actually bounce off the frames of the trucks landing with a deafening crash. I understand that property values in my area have gone up and I do not have a problem with my assessment if the portion of the Weld County Road 5 in front of my house was at least equal in quality to the rest of the road. I don't want my assessment lowered. I would like to have the road fixed. It seems to me that the revenue that this road produces for the County should more than offset the cost to maintain it. I do not think it is fair to me or my family that we should have to put up with the noise created by this problem while the rest of the County benefits from it's use. Please contact me or my wife if you have any questions.
