RE: APPROVE 2001 APPLICATION FOR COMMUNITY FOOD AND NUTRITION
PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the Board has been presented with a 2001 Application for Community Food
and Nutrition Program from the County of Weld, State of Colorado, by and through the Board of
County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Department of Social Services, to the
Colorado Department of Local Affairs, commencing upon full execution of said application, and
ending June 30, 2002, with further terms and conditions being as stated in said application, and
WHEREAS, after review, the Board deems it advisable to approve said application, a
copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, ex-officio Board of Social Services, that the 2001 Application for
Community Food and Nutrition Program from the County of Weld, State of Colorado, by and
through the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Department of
Social Services, to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs be, and hereby is, approved.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the Chair be, and hereby is, authorized
to sign said application.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 8th day of October, A.D., 2001.

RE: Community Food & Nutrition Program, 20a App tcation
Enclosed for Board approval is the Community Food &Nutrition Program, 2001
Application. The Weld County Department of Social Services is submitting this
application on behalf of the Weld Food Bank.
1. The grant application is for a period beginning on the date of a fully executed
contract between the Weld County Department of Social Services and the
Colorado Department of Local Affairs and ending June 30, 2002.
2. The grant application is for$3,723 to serve 1,241 persons with food supplements
such as eggs, fresh vegetables and canned foods.

whenever such coordination is determined to be inadequate,to better
serve low-income communities;
_ b: To assist low-income communities to identify potential sponsors of
child nutrition programs and initiate new programs in underserved and
unserved areas; and
c: To develop innovative approaches at State and local levels to meet
the nutrition needs of low-income people.
Applicant Program Description:
There is a waiting list of 700 who need housing assistance. The economy is faltering.
People are concerned and especially the elderly and disabled who do not have the option
of working yet another job. The chance of people being hungry and becoming homeless
is on the increase.
Weld Food Bank continues to expand our services to the vulnerable in our county. A
specific focus for this next year will be the south county region.
The Weld Food Bank will acquire food through community food drives,from local
producers,through the America's Second Harvest National Food Bank Network,from
local grocery stores,from USDA and if necessary purchasing the food to insure a box of
food that is of high quality and nutrition.
With$3723, 1241 persons would receive food to help supplement their diet. The food
will include such items as eggs, fresh vegetables and canned items.
