Subject: Future Northern Colorado Council of Regional
Governments
The Northern Colorado Business Report in the Jan.
26-Feb. 1, 01 issue has an article that mentions the U '
possible formation, in the future, of a council of
regional governments for the northern Colorado front
range area. Although the main theme of the article is i I --
cooperation between environmental and development
interests in planning, collaboration of and between
local governments would be, of necessity, deeply , rp
involved.
At the government level, this strikes home with the `•o
present need for cooperation between Weld County and
Longmont governments for the future development of
those parts of Weld County/Es MUD district which also
will be included, in the near future, in Longmont/Es
planning area. In the short term, there is a pressing
need for an IGA between the subject City and County,
similar to the one between Longmont and Boulder
County, to coordinate impending differences in
planning objectives, which if not resolved would be
detrimental to the future of the area.
In addition, it might be beneficial, in a broader way
for mutual cooperation and coordination, to monitor
the progress of the groups involved in a nascent
northern Colorado DRCOG as mentioned in the article.
The City of Longmont is on the border of two worlds;
that of the Denver Metro area and the Northern
Colorado Front range area. With expansion into Weld
County, it would seem that its interests are presently
gravitating more to the latter.
