I understand that the Town of Firestone did contact the Post Office and did receive a response. However this letter did not address our issues, nor does it offer any way to correct the problems we are concerned about. Furthermore, the offer to decrease our existing Post Office 80520 to service only Y< mile radius and forcing everyone outside of this '% mile circle to use 80504 Zip Code is not the answer! Using the name Firestone along with the 80504 Zip Code still does not correct the issues. • The Town of Firestone wants to expand the 80520 Zip Code to include all of the Firestone community. • Several local towns have "mixed mail" delivery (i.e. street, post office box and rural delivery out of one zip code) Why can't Firestone? • Mail delivery out of the Longmont Post Office 80504 Zip has not been efficient • 80504 Zip delivery out of Longmont Post Office (approximately 15 miles one way) can not possibly be cost effective for a postal service already economically challenged • It is a waste of my time and gas to retrieve postal items from Longmont when I live two miles from the Firestone Post Office • Because of 80504 Zip, my tax dollars are not going to my community; a merchant cannot distinguish between Firestone residents in 80504 or Longmont 80504 • I do not want to be forced to pay higher sales tax for items delivered to my home (Longmont sales/use tax is 7.05% versus Firestone's tax of 5%) • Firestone residents forced to use the Longmont 80504 Zip are faced daily with confusion regarding deliveries, purchases, vehicle and voter registration. POI/1h 7114. a k _ i August 1, 2001 Pr _. , ty n. Cr' Weld County Commissioners P.O. Box 758 Greeley, CO 80632 Dear Commissioners: I am a resident of Firestone and extremely concerned with the way the post office system is set up for the area. It is my understanding that the Town of Firestone did contact the Post Office and received a response in April 2001. This letter did not however address the issues we are concerned about, nor did it offer any remedy to the problems we are experiencing. The offer to decrease our existing Post Office for 80520 to service only a%mile radius and requiring everyone outside of this Y.mile radius to use the 80504 Zip Code is an unacceptable answer. The better corrective action would be to increase the servicing radius of the 80520 Post Office and to further develop the size and services of that service facility. The Town of Firestone proposes the expansion of the 80520 Zip Code to include all the Firestone communities. If you will refer to the Postal Operations Manual (07/16/98)652.422, it states'Postmasters' recommendations, customer preferences, and community or municipal identity should be considered in establishing delivery boundaries." Several local towns have"mixed mail"delivery (i.e. street, post office boxes, rural delivery out of one zip code). Is there a good reason why Firestone cannot receive this service? Mail delivery out of the Longmont Post Office 80504 Zip is approximately 15 miles, one-way. This cannot possibly be cost effective for the postal service, which is already economically challenged. It also is a waste of the residents'time and gas when it is necessary to retrieve postal items from the Post Office located 15 miles away in Longmont. The Post Office in Firestone is less than 5 miles away for most of the homes here. From what I understand because of the 80504 Zip, my tax dollars are not going to my Firestone community. A merchant cannot distinguish between Firestone residents in 80504 or Longmont 80504. Longmont is a part of Boulder County with Boulder County taxes and Firestone is in Weld County with Weld County taxes. This isn't just a matter of two different towns, but two different Counties. I am also required to pay a higher sales tax for items delivered to my home in Firestone. (Longmont sales/use tax is 7.05%, while Firestone's tax is 5%). Firestone residents forced to use the Longmont 80504 Zip are faced daily with confusion regarding deliveries, purchases, vehicle and voter registration. Won't you please help us receive adequate postal service to all of the residents of Firestone and help us remain as one community? I understand that the Town of Firestone did contact the Post Office and received a response from the Post Office in April 2001. Furthermore, the offer to decrease our existing Post Office (80520 Zip Code) to service only a quarter mile radius and forcing everyone outside of this area to use the 80504 Zip Code is not an acceptable position. The Postal Operations Manual 652.422 states that"customer preferences, and community or municipal identity should be considered in establishing delivery boundaries." -Several local towns have "mixed mail"delivery(i.e. street, post office box and rural delivery out of one zip code) such that Firestone could be serviced the same way -Mail delivery out of the Longmont Post Office 80504 Zip Code has been inefficient -Mail delivery to Firestone from the Longmont Post Office (approximately 15 miles one way) is not cost effective -The Longmont Post Office requires extra time and gas to retrieve postal items when I live two miles from the Firestone Post Office -My tax dollars do not go to my community since a merchant cannot distinguish between Firestone residents in 80504 or Longmont 80504 -I should not pay higher sales tax for items delivered to my home(Longmont sales tax is 7.05% when Firestone sales tax is 5%) -The use of the Longmont 80504 Zip Code causes confusion with voter registration, vehicle registration, deliveries, and purchases The entire Firestone community that lives in the 80520 Zip Code deserves appropriate postal service from the 80520 Zip Code Post Office.
