HomeMy WebLinkAbout20010479.tiff RESOLUTION RE: APPROVE EXPENDITURE AUTHORIZATION REQUEST FOR WAGNER-PEYSER SUMMER JOB HUNT PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZE CHAIR TO SIGN WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, the Board has been presented with an Expenditure Authorization Request for the Wagner-Peyser Summer Job Hunt Program between the County of Weld, State of Colorado, by and through the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Department of Human Services, Employment Services Division, and the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, commencing March 1, 2001, and ending August 31, 2001, with further terms and conditions being as stated in said request, and WHEREAS, after review, the Board deems it advisable to approve said request, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, that the Expenditure Authorization Request for the Wagner-Peyser Summer Job Hunt Program between the County of Weld, State of Colorado, by and through the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, on behalf of the Department of Human Services, Employment Services Division, and the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment be, and hereby is, approved. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Board that the Chair be, and hereby is, authorized to sign said request. SCOPE OF WORK: A. Purpose and Goal Employment Services of Weld County will use the award of$16,250.00 to provide basic labor exchange services to youth job seekers and encourage employers to hire youth for the summer. B. Services to be Provided Services to be provided will include the following: . A Job Fair, in March 2001, in conjunction with the City of Greeley. Employment Services will do registration, provide labor market information and workshops on topics on resumes, labor market information and interviewing. The Job Fair will be promoted by the local radio and television stations. . Approximately 16 schools will be visited prior to June. These school will include middle schools, high schools, Aims Community College and the University of Northern Colorado. During these visits, labor market information, applications, referrals for jobs, and general information on how to access the AJB etc. will be provided. These are usually done in class room settings. Youth will be made aware of all the youth programs available at the workforce center. . Information will be made available at local malls and other places where youth hang out. Approximately three group registrations for information on Summer Job Hunt and well as other services the Work Force Center provides will be scheduled and advertised to encourage youth to access services. . Upon registration, all youth will be encouraged to meet with a Summer Job Hunt Specialist to discuss job development, one to one job search and referrals to jobs. Active recruitment of employers and jobs will begin in March and continue through the program. The Summer Job Hunt Specialists will focus on employers who traditionally hire youth for part time or summer work. . Emphasis will be placed on quality job orders and referrals. . Follow-up with youth and employers will occur on an ongoing basis. C. Proiected Number of Participants to be Served Employment Services of Weld County will work towards meeting the goals set by the state: place 400 youth in employment and 200 youth in obtained employment within 90 days of receiving a reportable service. D. Expected Outcomes See C E. Coordination with other One-Stop Partners All Workforce Center partners will be informed of the youth programs and encouraged to have their youth, as appropriate, access the program. In addition, staff will attend meetings with the Greeley Youth Initiative and coordinate with the City of Greeley Parks and Recreation Department as well as other recreation programs for outreach. F. Other Financial Resources to Support Program Employment Services operates a number of programs including the Workforce Investment Act youth programs and a Youth Crime and Intervention Program. All youth will be encouraged to review options to see which programs suits their needs. G. Subcontracting Arrangements Not applicable. Weld County does not subcontract services. II. This program is designed to assist youth acquire employment-seeking skills and obtaining employment. The following goals for the program are to place 400 youth into jobs and assist another 200 youth obtain employment. Funding provided for the program is $16,250.00 and the performance period is from March 1, 2001 to August 31, 2001.
