RE: INDICATE SUPPORT OF WESTERN SUGAR COMPANY
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Weld County, Colorado, pursuant to
Colorado statute and the Weld County Home Rule Charter, is vested with the authority of
administering the affairs of Weld County, Colorado, and
WHEREAS, the operation of the sugar factory in Greeley has historically made a
substantial economic contribution to Greeley and Weld County, and
WHEREAS, the Greeley sugar factory employed more than 185 workers in fiscal 2000,
and
WHEREAS, the operation of the Greeley sugar factory by Western Sugar contributed in
excess of$25,000,000 to the local economy in fiscal 2000, and
WHEREAS, the 1999 personal and real property taxes related to the Greeley sugar
factory were in excess of$264,000, and
WHEREAS, the Greeley factory and the other assets of Western Sugar are currently for
sale, and
WHEREAS, the continued operation of the Greeley sugar factory is important to the
Greeley and Weld County economies.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners of
Weld County, Colorado, be, and hereby is, in support of the continued operation of the Greeley
sugar factory.
The above and foregoing Resolution was, on motion duly made and seconded, adopted
by the following vote on the 5th day of March, A.D., 2001.
