WELD COUNTY COMMUNICATIONS ADVISORY BOARD MAY 22, 2001 The Weld County Communications Advisory Board met Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at 10:31Bi -rh.;in;, the Weld County Centennial Center, Room 350. Chairperson Mike Geile called the meeting to order. Present were Board Members Mike Geile,Ed Jordan,Steve Linde,John Michaels, and Mike Savage; and staff members Jack Statler, Jon Baker, and Linda Weingardt. MINUTES: Ed Jordan moved, seconded by Mike Savage,to approve the minutes of the April 24,2001,meeting as presented. Minutes were unanimously approved. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Staff Report: Jack advised that Bob Yant of Lochbuie expressed interest in serving as that area's representative to the Board. An application was sent to him, but nothing has been received. Jack advised that staff will be looking at issues with badge numbers, specifically the impact on RMS. Greeley is still not using their 800 radios, however probably will be doing so in about another week. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Mike Geile introduced Evelyn Soloynka of United Way who gave a presentation in "IRIS" software,an information retrieval system that should be functioning by July 10. This system is a way for the public to access to information on service providers in the area. The software is currently being used in Denver and Larimer County and includes 611 programs, and 238 agencies located in Weld, Larimer, Denver, Grand Junction, and Atlanta. This information will be accessible by calling a"to be announced"phone number or by accessing it on the Internet. Disks will be available free of charge and they will self-destruct in six months,at which time new disks will be available. This will evolve into the 211 system, and when that system is running,it is anticipated that non-emergency calls into 911 will decrease. The United Way currently has seven funding partners in this venture. Packets were distributed to Board Members and were also picked up for Board Members not present. Discussions will commence with police, fire and emd. As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned. / 2001-2602 : United Way of Weld • • County T e § z 5 P 3 HELPLINE • What is 21 I? . • 21I is an easy to remember and universally recognizable number that makes a critical • i) w;,, connection between individuals and families ; • in need and the appropriate community— • s. • • A Technology Based la} based-organizations and government Information and agencies. 211 is a health and human services . • ''' Referral Service information and referral line (I&R) soon to • i , be available in Colorado. • .. -When will 21 I be available in Colorado? `; 211 Colorado is presently exploring and pur- •_,J/ e • suing the implementation of 211.
