Dear Commissioners:
On November 3, 2001, Weld County hosted a community cleanup event for the area of unincorporated
Evans, Colorado. This was a truly a much-needed service in our community, and as a result of the cleanup
day many unsightly messes have found more appropriate final resting-places.
The reason for this letter is to acknowledge the efforts of all the county personnel who devoted their time
and effort on a Saturday morning to assist Evans residents in the cleanup of their properties. There are
many individuals in our area who took advantage of the cleanup day and who therefore owe a debt of
gratitude to all those county personnel involved in the event.
I know that events such as these are produced as the result of a larger team effort and that all involved are
deserving of praise; however, I would like to single out Bethany Salzman and recognize her diligent efforts
to both organize and execute the event. Bethany personally called many residents to organize the initial
community meeting and to inform residents of the planned cleanup day. She herself was out with a
hammer and wooden stakes to post the meeting signs.
After the initial community meeting,Bethany once again called many residents to organize a larger
volunteer effort for the event,and again she got out a hammer and posted signs in the neighborhood to
make sure all residents would have the opportunity to take advantage of the day. On the cleanup day she
was out early in the morning in her work clothes and gloves, and she personally assisted me in clearing a
large pile of old tires from my property in addition to working all day at the collection site with many other
residents.
Because of all of our busy schedules,there is simply not enough time to recognize the many services that
county personnel provide on an ongoing basis. However, I wanted you to know that my wife and I are very
thankful to the individuals who were involved in the Evans cleanup day. We are very pleased to know that
there are dedicated individuals such as Bethany Salzman working to serve Weld County residents.
