To Whom It May Concern,
This is to address the question of the nature of our business. We have one semi-tractor
and vacuum tank trailer and one tandem vacuum tank. These two pieces of equipment
are subcontracted under companies that install underground fiber optic lines using the
large boring machines. To do this operation, they use a lot of water creating a large
quantity of mud that has to be cleaned up and hauled away. This is what our two trucks
do. We haul the mud and water to area gravel pits and dump it there.
We have one smaller sized boring machine. We subcontract (mainly for Qwest) and
install underground phone lines to area residences. Our trencher is used on those
locations where it is not practical to use the boring machine.
Our two pothole systems are used to locate underground utilities (water lines, fiber optic
lines, gas & electric lines). They use pressurized water to core a hole in the ground to
physically find the above utilities. There is a small vacuum tank mounted on the trailer to
suck up the mud created by the water. We then haul the mud to an area gravel pit and
dump it.
The skidsteer is used on our property to load pea gravel onto the trucks. After locating
utilities with the pothole systems we have to fill the holes back up with gravel or asphalt
depending what surface it was to begin with.
If you have further questions, please feel free to give us a call. Thank you.
Sincerely,
_

ANSWERS
1. The south area of the lot Is our home and will remain that. The shop area is used for
maintenance and overnight storage of our equipment. We park two of the units in the shop
overnight and when needed do all the repair maintenance inside the shop. We only work on
our own equipment. We do not repair equipment for hire. Maintenance is usually done on
Saturdays or those days when the weather keeps us from going to work off site.
2. Will comply with the code.
3. Will comply with the code.

be less noise and dust than when we were farming.

6. Most of our landscaping is very mature and the newly planted trees and bushes have been
there fora year and a half. We plan to plant grass on each side of the concrete apron on the
south end of the shop and also replant the grass south of the house next to the county road.
A sprinkler system has been installed to cover all areas of the lawn including the south end of
the shop and the south end of the existing lawn.
7. Not applicable. This lot is where our home is. We will not remove the shop if we terminate
the business.
8. Any runoff from a rainstorm runs to the south towards the county road and into the bar ditch.

10. One(1)500 gallon barrel is placed at the NM comer of the shop for disposal of used oil.
Raptor is the name of the company we call to come and empty the barrel when it is full and
haul it away. We do not deal with a lot of used oil. We built the shop almost two years ago
and have had the storage barrel there. Most of those two years we were still farming and
dealt with more used oil than we will now with our new business, yet it is only about half full
after those two years.
