Dear Landowner: •
A number of inquiries have been received regarding the Keota Uranium Project Noti-
- fication dated October 10, 1980. This letter is intended to -supplement that noti-
fication through clarification of information and correction of the permit area
description given.
The Keota Project involves solution mining of uranium "in. placel" by injecting a
solution into the ore body to dissolve uranium minerals, pumping the uranium en-
riched solution back to the surface, and recovering the uranium at a surface plant.
As a facility involving such activity, the Keota Project falls under the ground
water protection provisions of the Colorado Department of Health, and has filed
an application under the department's Rules for Subsurface Disposal . According
to these rules, every landowner within a two mile radius of the boundary of the
permit area described below have been so notified (10-10-80), including many
whose surface/mineral holdings are currently beyond Union's proposed activities.
The location of the uranium solution mining site is as follows:

Pursuant to the provisions of the Colorado Water Quality Control Act, Chapter 25,
Section 8, CRS, 1973, as amended, and the Colorado Department of Health, Water
Quality Control Commission, Rules for Subsurface Disposal Systems , 1977,
NOTICE is hereby given that Union Energy Mining Division of Union Oil Company of
California has filed, and incorporates herein by this reference, an Application
for Subsurface Disposal System with the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission.
The proposed system, the Keota Uranium Project, is an in situ (solution) uranium
mining facility in Weld County, Colorado.
The location of the uranium solution mining site is as follows:

4210 East 11th Avenue, Denver, Colorado, and may be viewed by interested persons
during office hours. Persons desiring to review the application at other times may
call (303) 320-8333, extension 3378, and make special arrangements. Also, feel free
to contact the party below at Union Energy Mining Division's Tucson Office,
(602) 884-8073 for further information.
A hearing before the Water Quality Control Commission has been requested. Prior
to the hearing, the Commission will issue a notification of the date and location
of the hearing.
